Brainscape’s SMART FLASHCARDS foster hyper-efficient studying and strong habits to DOUBLE your learning speed, with the strongest implementation of spaced repetition and active recall of any flashcard app on the planet! (And probably in the universe, assuming some super intelligent alien species out there hasn’t beaten us to it.)

With a knowledge bank created by millions of global users and experts, you can FIND, MAKE, and SHARE flashcards anytime, anywhere, and on any device, while keeping all your content meticulously ORGANIZED and seamlessly IN SYNC across web, mobile, and all your devices.

How does it work? Brainscape’s intelligent study system has been designed in accordance with decades of proven cognitive science to help you learn faster and remember longer than with any other flashcard app. (And we don’t waste time on games. Our flashcards are for serious learners.)

Brainscape distills any subject down into bite-sized facts (neatly organized into decks and classes), which are posed as question-and-answer pairs, compelling you to actively recall information from scratch. You then rate how well you know each concept on a scale of 1 to 5, and Brainscape determines the perfect time interval at which to repeat that flashcard again.

If you know the answer well, you’ll see that flashcard less often; if you don’t know it well, you’ll see it again and again, at frequent intervals, until it’s deeply ingrained into your brain. And it’s this totally unique combination of active recall, self-assessment (metacognition), and spaced repetition that is scientifically proven to significantly slash your required study time!

Where do all of Brainscape’s awesome flashcards come from? Three places:

THE WORLD’S TOP EXPERTS. Brainscape partners with top publishers, schools, and educators to create comprehensive collections of certified flashcards for a diverse array of subjects, from foreign languages (we are the best language-learning tool in the world) to high-stakes exams like the AP series, MBE (bar exam), Series 7, NCLEX, MCAT, and more.

YOUR PEERS. Top students, professors, teachers, tutorpreneurs, and businesses around the world have created over 1 million subjects that are available to search on Brainscape’s Knowledge Genome.

YOU! You can easily create and organize thousands of multimedia flashcards featuring text, images, and even audio files, both on Brainscape’s website AND within the app itself. You can also share your decks with your classmates and collaboratively develop content together.

How much does it cost? Creating and sharing great flashcards is FREE. (Woohoo!) And for unlimited access to ALL of Brainscape's user-generated and premium, expert-curated content, as well as optional features, like bookmarks and card reversibility, you can upgrade to Pro for $9.99 (monthly), $41.99 (every 6 months), or $59.99 (annually). Alternatively, you can unlock a LIFETIME of learning with Brainscape for a one-time cost of only $129.99 American dolla billz.

The fine print: The three recurring subscriptions (monthly, semiannual, and annual) will renew automatically within 24 hours before the end of the current period, unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the period. You can cancel auto-renewal any time by going to Account Settings, and the cancellation will apply after the active subscription period is complete. Go ahead and learn more about our Terms and Privacy Policy at brainscape.com/terms.

What’s on the horizon? It’s our vision to empower everyone, everywhere to rise to the challenge of personalized forever-learning. And for this reason, we love hearing from our community of users: it’s through your feedback that we can continue to innovate our learning platform to be more convenient, efficient, and even fun and social to use!

Impression and review of people to iPhone App [Brainscape – Smart Flashcards]!

  • User friendly
by Smmod on June 25, 2022 at 3:12 pm

Easy and quick to make flash cards. Intuitive use. I love it!

  • Great app
by nixilplixl on June 17, 2022 at 4:25 pm

I was looking for an app to help me improve my Spanish vocabulary and supplement what I was learning in my classes. I tried a few other apps but Brainscape is exactly what I am looking. It provides graded flash card practice without me having to create the flash cards myself. It tracks what I have learned and what I need more work on. It is easy to use anytime for short sessions or longer ones so I use it several times during the day.

  • App works well!
by Will Bigg on June 12, 2022 at 5:43 am

Easy user interface. Not buggy. I like it overall.

  • No way to contact
    by FamilyInNewYork.com on June 8, 2022 at 1:05 pm

Joined yesterday. Ordered flash cards. Password continually rejected. Told to check email. No email after many tries. No phone number anywhere. Guess I will have to go over to the Navy Yard.

    by Bebeskid87 on June 7, 2022 at 4:46 am

I really enjoy this app..but I don’t like the most recent update. I had the list on certain cards in a bullet point format but with this update it has changed them to look like a sentence. Please fix it…this is an old review it seems like to have a clean format you have to pay which is fine with me. Now my issue is the time lapse it takes when I make new cards on my laptop to how long it takes to sync to my phone. Also can you bring back the function where I can set it to like 30-50 cards instead of always have to do either continuous study or the check point study

  • Great!

    Simply the best.

  • Same app for 10 years
    by jp32334484 on May 7, 2022 at 9:25 pm

This app has added nothing new in 10 years. Can’t study bookmarked cards, only browse. Bookmarks don’t show on internet. Can’t copy cards on iOS, can’t study in order if wanted, can’t reset confidence for only one deck. The list goes on. Unbelievable

  • Very effective study aid
    by DrPat117 on May 6, 2022 at 6:51 pm

I’ve always hated flash cards, but this is different. Its not boring and it adjusts itself to help you where you need it most

  • Brainscape team is very responsive!
by JaxBerlin on May 6, 2022 at 10:35 am

This is my updated review of the Brainscape app. They’ve been rolling out new updates after getting feedback from users and I’m very happy about this. The app is getting better and better everyday. I’m a lifetime subscriber of the app with over 17,000 cards made, so I’m very happy to see these improvements.

  • Great App!
by So frustrades on May 5, 2022 at 10:44 am

I’m studying for the WV history bowl and this app has been a big help! In 2 days I memorized over 60 questions, it makes it very easy with the rating system!

    Too expensive

  • Dark mode
by DiPrisc on April 22, 2022 at 10:20 am

I will update my rating once the dark mode is on! No dark mode and is tired for my eyes to study with everything being so bright.

    Just keeps getting better

  • Sadly had to switch back to Quizlet
    by EllieKim318 on April 19, 2022 at 1:10 pm

I really really wanted to like this app, but unfortunately it has 2 fatal flaws that make it unusable. First, the color coding system: after every card you rate it 1-5 of how well you knew the card. It’s so Brainscape can show cards you don’t know as well more often. Great idea! BUT each “rating” has its own color and brainscape colors each card with that color (yellow, orange, green, red, etc.). The problem with this is that the color of the cards is constantly changing. I didn’t think this was a big deal at first, but it made it sooo much harder to memorize the cards. Your brain starts to associate the word with the color, but the color constantly changes. It’s like if you made paper flashcards for anatomy and made all the arm bones = red, skull bones = green, leg bones = yellow, etc. Your brain associates the terms with the colors, creates a system and you recall faster. Imagine if every time you studied the cards the colors changed. Sure, if you already have a mastery of the subject, it might be a good test. But for initial memorization (which I imagine most of are doing), it makes it soooo much harder. I even A/B tested a deck with quizlet (no colors) and brainscape and I learned the Quizlet deck so much faster. It also psychologically psyches you out. Whenever I get a purple card (hardest recall), I get kind of nervous? Like my brain subconsciously panics like Oh crap this is one I rated as difficult and it adds this unnecessary minor stress to studying? With quizlet, I don’t feel that way at all. Second, it only lets you study 10 cards at a time. Yes, you can technically study more with the “continuous study” option, but it bypasses their “system” and doesn’t record your progress which kind of defeats the purpose of brainscape’s whole concept. I used flashcards for medical school and if I was limited to 10 cards per session and had to start a new session every 10 cards. I’d lose my mind and never get enough done. Finally, you don’t have any control over which 10 cards you see. It’s random every time. If you have 50 cards you might have to do 10 sessions before you even see all the cards. If you want to study just a subset in a certain order or even the order you put them in, you have to do “continuous study” or “browse” again which doesn’t record your progress.

  • Can’t study cards backwards
by Trail Runner 1138 on April 10, 2022 at 4:33 pm

Wonderful app in all the ways, perfect even, except for one glaring flaw. You can’t study cards backwards without going through a bunch of steps on your browser to create backwards cards. As a result, I can’t recommend this for people studying vocabulary or foreign languages.

  • Enjoy

    I enjoy this app. I t hijo it’s very y useful.

  • Love this one
by best gym ever on April 8, 2022 at 2:59 am

I’ve been learning Spanish for a little over a year as I’ve been traveling around central and South America. Spanish apps are a part of my daily practice and I’ve tried a bunch of them. I found Brainscape last week and I’ve been really loving it. The rhythm of how they roll out the vocabulary has been super effective. Retention of the words themselves feels strong with this system but its not just learning how to say words.. it gives you context, comparisons and a deeper understanding of their application

  • Great for Classical Conversations
by pauldunlap on April 6, 2022 at 3:18 pm

Homeschooling dad here. I use this app to help my memory master. Don't waste time on material that is mastered. Spaced repetition is the way to go! ….. All of the above is still true but the older version of this app was better in many functional ways. In the old app: I could tilt the screen for horizontal app orientation. I could tap images in the cards to enlarge them (this one is huge). If I accidentally mis graded a card I could double tap the card and go back one card to change the grade. I could set a number of cards to review in a session. I even think that the graphic layout design and color scheme was better.

  • My favorite way to learn anything!
    by Chall515 on April 2, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Any time I need to learn something and make sure I remember it I come to this app. It’s so simple to use anywhere I am. Whether I have 2 mins or a longer time study, this app is right there ready for me!! Definitely one of my FAVORITE apps and looking forward to even more updates from the developers. Keep it up, y’all 🙌

  • Great learning aid!
by MarktoMarket on March 17, 2022 at 10:52 am

Looked at 2 other flash card apps before this one - this one I like. UI also not ugly. I’m smarter than I was before I had this app.

  • The best app
by Самата on March 12, 2022 at 10:56 pm

In a nutshell. The best flash cards app. I highly recommend it.

  • Love the app! But..
by Frankyfatman on March 7, 2022 at 4:38 pm

It’s great for flash cards but I wish I could go through more then 10 cards at a time in the study option, I also wish there was and option to make multiple choice bullet points to select other wise this app has helped me get multiple 100’s on tests I take for state exams I need for my trade. You can share your flash cards with friends which is awesome!

  • Big help
by mcearle on February 17, 2022 at 12:22 am

I find studying language with flash cards very helpful but I don’t particularly like making my own cards or storing them all. And I have never figured out how to rotate them for review. Brainscape to the rescue. I can make my own digital flash cards. I can use other’s flash cards. I can study on my phone in line at the store or on my desktop. Brainscape has really helped me improve my language study vocabulary.

  • Good info
by paint girl 13 on February 13, 2022 at 6:21 pm

Basically good information, however there are a ton of typos and a few discrepancies in the learning criteria.

  • Add reverse cards feature
by Bobuggityboo on February 9, 2022 at 3:45 pm

Add a feature to reverse each card, it’s ridiculous that this app is so expensive and took away that feature

  • Best flash card maker!
by Pinkninjacow on February 8, 2022 at 10:50 pm

I use this for Japanese Vocab. Very easy and intuitive. We’ll organized

  • Very Organized
by Wannabe Legendary Polyglot on January 30, 2022 at 3:16 am

As someone who loves learning languages this has been a very good app for learning languages. I find this app to be very organized and you can even make topics and have individual decks for each lesson/chapter and it’s supper nice to have that feature. I love using the teach yourself series books and they have chapters where they I introduce new words to you so if makes it nice to divide up the words from each chapter in that language. This app is way better than Anki. Anki with the flash cards would’ve made it a decade to find stuff but with app you can find it because you can make individual things and it be super convenient!!!!!

  • Wow
by destrymalone on January 29, 2022 at 4:08 am

I’ve been trying to find a way to commit all of my meds to memory and today I finally found it! This app is everything I’ve been looking for and MORE! I just wanted to keep up with meds to classifications adverse reactions and everything but this app has so much more. I’m so excited to see everything it has to offer and so far everything has been free so that is a MAJOR plus because nursing school is expensive!

  • Best but Needs Dark Mode
by SuperCyberGhostUser on January 27, 2022 at 5:34 am

This app is the best spaced repetition software you can get. It keep the user organized via classes and custom decks. But unfortunately I can’t study at night without dark mode because it’s too impactful on my eyes. Apple and other apps have give users dark mode because it’s good on the eyes. Please help us and give the app dark mode with [email protected]@

  • This app is stupid
by fermin chapa on January 26, 2022 at 12:55 am

It was working just fine until you had to update it. Now I can’t save any of the work I just did this is trash thanks a lot.

  • God for specifics
    by Am.438.702 on January 22, 2022 at 4:41 pm

Although it takes some time to organise and make the cards. For specific numbers or things to remember by heart, its really good. Once I get 100%, I know it for sure

  • I want it to be good again
    by bac2thaBasix on January 21, 2022 at 10:55 am

Im trying Brainscape, I’m a lifetime member and I’m trying to being able to say I support this app but the devs are making it hard. They refuse to listen to feedback from longtime users. They changed it because they wanted to and not from feedback. Here is a great little piece of feedback, being back the confidence setting in the browse mode. It went from one keystroke to set confidence in a card to four. I.e. when I first set up cards I like to go through and set my predetermined confidence. I used to be able to just do that automatically in the app on the side via a drop down menu . Now, I have to open the card up, flip it over, rate confidence, be sent to another card, flip it over, rate it…oh wait, you rated your previous card a 1, you have to see that one again….or, you have to back out of browse mode, scroll down to the next unrated card and repeat the process all over again. It’s stupid. If you bring back one thing or change one thing, WHICH YOU SHOULD!!! Bring that back. It makes the app unusable. At this point I would rather ask for a refund and go back to quizlett.

  • Cards take forever to download now
    by jaybeezee69 on January 18, 2022 at 8:53 am

I used to love this app but since the update my decks take forever to download (hours upon hours). Months later I still have less than 25 pct of my content. Super frustrating

  • Better than Anki! Mastery metric on point!
    by teamka04 on January 17, 2022 at 4:48 pm

I LOVE this app!!! I’ve used it for the MCAT, throughout my first 2 years of medical school and am now using the pre-made USMLE deck for my board exam prep. I love the percent mastery metric. It is ALWAYS within 3% of my exam scores (including the MCAT)! I only wish there was a plug in or connection with Picmonic that allowed quick search of Picmonics. 100% prefer the spaced repetition algorithm over Anki! I don’t need to fiddle with settings. Brainscape shows me what I need to see when I need to see it. The search function for terms is ok, but I wish I could search and it would leave the list of results up instead of having to search the term again after looking at the first one. Also, I preferred the browse mode from the older version. When I do a quick review for exams I just want to flip through them. But this new version only shows a preview and you only have the option to study the deck from that card. Please allow for quick edits in the app. Overall, I am very happy with the new version!! It is much quicker!

  • One of the best ways to learn.
    by Sterlingchick1992 on January 15, 2022 at 9:50 am

I love Brainscape. If there is one app that will push me to learn something and do it well, it’s this one. Any subject I learn through Brainscape is challenging, but in a good way.

  • Awesome

    Awesome

  • Easy to use, lots of flexibility
    by WYKKO-Hangtime on January 6, 2022 at 12:02 am

Brainscape is an easy to use application to create flash cards on all sorts of topics and study based on how well you rate your familiarity with the topics. Brainscape has been a key part of my preparation for certification exams, I highly recommend.

Life Changing. Thank you for existing.

  • Great app but some frustrations with update
by bostonbostian on December 20, 2021 at 9:47 pm

These are issues with the update but weren’t issues previously: (1) some text is very small - too small to read easily, (2) no landscape mode, (3) you can’t touch anywhere on the card to flip it - you have to hit the exact button to reveal the answer.

  • I like it
by LaLaLand ! on December 18, 2021 at 1:50 pm

There has been a new update that completely renovated the look of the app. When you now open the app it is white with more organization options. This app is very helpful while studying for exams, tests, or any other memorization required. At first the update was hard to get used to since I was using the previous version for multiple years. Non the less, I have always used this app since lower school, and it has never failed me. Although, the one thing I would really appreciate is being able to edit my rating on how I well I did on a card from inside the edit deck option. This would be beneficial when trying to go back and re-learn old material for exams. Over all it is a good app for flash cards that, in my opinion, is a better alternative than using paper flash cards. This app is better for the environment and also has a good algorithm for gradually introducing new material to the learner.

  • Highly recommend this app
by 余方哲 on December 16, 2021 at 5:45 am

Simple, easy to use. A lot of other apps aren’t that intuitive or just have to much noise or ads. This app is clean and has a simple rating card method to reinforce cards by the level you know the back of the card. Also has decent library of online cards. I found an obscure certification test I was taking.
