The Dexcom Follow App is part of the Dexcom SHARE® system.

Use this app if your loved one is sharing data from their Dexcom CGM app. The Sharer will need to send an invitation to allow you to connect after you have installed the Follow app.

Dexcom Follow is the perfect companion to your loved one’s Dexcom CGM, connecting you to those nearest and dearest to you, even when they’re far away. Through secure wireless connections, Dexcom Follow allows you to view and follow the glucose levels, trends and data of your loved ones. Whether you have a child who is in school, an elderly parent who lives on their own, or a spouse who is going on a business trip, Dexcom Follow is there to keep you connected and informed.

With Dexcom Follow, you can:

• Monitor your loved one’s glucose activity at school or anywhere they go.
• Receive glucose information of up to 10 different Sharers – children, friends, or other loved ones.
• Respond quickly with the help of customizable glucose alerts and push notifications that can inform you when a Sharer’s glucose levels are outside the norm.

Dexcom Follow is compatible with your Apple Watch. You can follow and view glucose information and trend graphs of up to ten people right on your wrist. Your watch can also alert you when sharer's glucose levels are outside the norm.

Do not use Dexcom Follow for treatment decisions, such as insulin dosing. The Sharer should follow instructions on the CGM system.

  • When it works…🤬
by Bibbclerk on September 21, 2021 at 3:06 am

My husband is a serious Type I diabetic. I try to help him take care of himself by simultaneously monitoring his sugar levels. This “Follow” is the most UNDEPENDABLE app ever. I should be able to count on it as an integral part of tracking his glucose levels‼️When it works, (????) it’s okay. Otherwise, it is worthless most of the time. 😩

  • Absolute Garbage
by ryancweaver on September 19, 2021 at 11:03 pm

There is a bug that will not let you acknowledge an alert unless the app is open on the users phone when it goes off. Terribly painful at night when you have a 3 year old with T1D and it goes off over and over and over again. This has not been fixed since introduced in a release 10+ months ago. Stop paying Nick Jonas for advertisements and get some quality developers to fix these apps.

  • Please UPDATE!
by MrsVEdwards on September 16, 2021 at 7:43 pm

It is unreal how long they are taking to update their app for iOS. It has been MONTHS since I’ve been able to get alerts for my son’s Dexcom. When we rely on Dexcom technology it’s very frustrating that it’s not working as intended.

  • Great app!
    by EEA99 on September 15, 2021 at 2:32 pm

Love this app and how it allows us to follow our child’s number. One thing I wish it did was mirror the Dexcom users information so we as followers could see the transmitter info and when the sensor is set to expire. This would be very helpful!

  • Have not been able to use for months
by CAWJOHN on September 14, 2021 at 3:08 pm

So frustrated with how slow Dexcom is to update this app to be compatible with current versions of the iOS operating system. I had to update my iOS version due to other reasons and have not been able to see my daughter’s numbers. The only solution that Dexcom tech had for me was to wait until they release and stop updating the operating system on my phone, even when the update contains security patches. This app has not been updated for 10 months and they were unable to give me any idea of when an update will be published. Terrible

  • App has stopped alerting me
by Frdhnbbnvsscnj on September 12, 2021 at 12:16 am

Some time in the last week the app has stopped giving me notifications to highs and lows no matter what setting I put. Please fix this issue

  • Not Notifying me anymore
by AleyRod on September 9, 2021 at 2:29 am

So up until maybe a week ago the app isn’t notifying me anymore when my son is low !! It was doing great since we had the app but now it’s not doing it. Please fix this, it’s very important to be notified when my son is low and he’s asleep .

  • Nice update but please add a widget
by Demicrown on September 8, 2021 at 2:37 pm

This app works well and the new design is nice. I wish it had a widget like the regular Dexcom app. UPDATE: Still no widget for some reason. Double update: voicing a problem others have mentioned, the app loses connection with whom ever you are following ALL THE TIME lately.

  • Constantly No Data Crashes
    by BlondeBelle912 on September 2, 2021 at 7:38 pm

My son is 7 years old. Only a few months into his TY1D diagnosis. When we got him the Dexcom, gosh— I could finally sleep again. And I was comfortable sending him back to school. But the past 2 weeks, we have been having no data pop up on the Follow Apps, and therefore I am blind at home. I can’t see his sugars. And it’s scary. Especially today, when he has 2 recesses and PE, and the last notification I get is 54 with 2 arrows down. Please look in to the no data crashes. It shows on his phone but not on the Follow App.

  • Please update!
by UPDATE YOU APPS on September 2, 2021 at 6:57 pm

Please update so I can follow my daughter on my watch. It worked fine, then the latest update I get no numbers. It’s SO frustrating! What’s the point of having this valuable tool if it’s not updated regularly or works like it should??

  • Unreliable
by GPeteJeff on August 31, 2021 at 11:17 am

I’ve never reviewed an app before but this is too important. I was excited when app caught up to new phone, and I could use it again to help with my loved one. Now all I see is the level at the time I check and that’s it and not because of a warning, no graph.

  • Please update app
    by Melissa😀 on August 31, 2021 at 11:05 am

Please update the app to work with iphone 12 pro max and apple watch series 5. The last update you had was over 9 months ago. I haven’t been able to use the app in a over year. It didn’t work on my prior phone either iphone 11 pro max. I called and someone told me the app gets updated every 6 months. They lied. It would be great to be able to use the app again. Thank you.

  • IOS Version Updates Behind
    by Joecool1998 on August 31, 2021 at 3:12 am

Doesn’t work with latest IPhone IOS 14.7. Renders app useless. Customer service was not helpful at all.

  • Wish it worked as it’s intended to!!
by JAD mom on August 31, 2021 at 2:23 am

My son has never had continued success with this app. All day today it has been providing glitchy data. So frustrating when he’s just started college and away from home….

  • Doesn’t always work!!!
by Wishihadmorehints! on August 30, 2021 at 3:28 am

I have an elderly family member who battled Covid and now needs help monitoring blood sugar levels. While the Dexcom unit works great thank God, the “Follow” app is horrible! It worked fine for 3-4 days but now does not follow at all and I’m not sure I’ll even get high/low alerts which are critical. Seeing all the bad reviews over time, I see I’m not alone. I was so excited and happy that we’d be able to work together to get her diabetes under control but not sure what else we need to do. Is there a plan to fix this app since it’s been so long with issues?

  • Does the job
    by Negs23 on August 11, 2021 at 4:38 am

It works ok, would be nice if the people following someone else’s dexcom could put a widget up so we can just swipe left from the Lock Screen to see it. Otherwise it does what’s it’s supposed to

  • Ok… When it works
    by Pretty_Toney on August 10, 2021 at 2:12 pm

Always was able to get my wife’s blood sugar before she linked it with her tandem pump. Now more times than not I get “no data”. I am actually pretty amazed when I actually get a reading. Defeats the purpose of the app especially when I work 30 miles from home and want peace of mind.

  • Does NOT work w IOS update 😡
    by Teach-Teach on August 6, 2021 at 1:55 pm

The technology is out there to get on board and keep up! Get with it! This is a medical device that has been life saving. Now, it will not work at all. Unacceptable!

  • Only works sometimes
by The Mrs. Suttle on August 3, 2021 at 2:20 am

Come on Dexcom, it’s the 21st century, it shouldn’t be so hard to keep up to date with new operating systems, specifically iOS. My son was diagnosed in June 2021 at age 13, and we got the dexcom within a week. As of this review we’ve gotten less than 14days transmitted through the app. I set alarms to go and check the receiver through the night. I’ve called multiple times and get told it’s the iOS not the transmitter that is the issue. Thankfully my son answers my texts through the day to let me know his readings, if he were . You get this wouldn’t be possible.

  • Doesn’t stay connected
by Daaaaakkkkk on July 28, 2021 at 2:27 pm

Just simply doesn’t stay connected, so it becomes worthless for my wife to wear a dexcom if the app doesn’t stay connected with the device. We have it so I can track it and it can alert us if it gets high or low in the night. Well the only way it connects is to open the app, turn blue tooth off and on and hope it randomly connects again. Just seems like that would be the number one thing this thing would serve, is alerting you when you’re high or low, but if it disconnects every minute then it defeats the whole purpose of wearing one.

  • Complication for Apple Watch? Please?
    by Jpl666666 on July 22, 2021 at 2:20 pm

We love what the Dexcom G5 has done for managing my daughter's diabetes. I only wish there was an Apple Watch complication for the follow app so I could check at a glance instead of having to open the app itself. Would make a big difference to us. Update: Years later (now on G6) and still waiting for a complication showing the BG number! Now the app itself is only available as a complication on one watch face (California) as far as I can see. Used to be available on more faces. What is the problem?!?! The follow function is what sets you apart from Freestyle. I would think you would want that to work well!

  • Not with iPhone 12??
by SarahSelah on July 19, 2021 at 8:52 pm

Doesn’t appear to be compatible with my iPhone 12 Pro Max?

  • Option for DND override
    by Btrfly9 on July 14, 2021 at 2:18 pm

We have been using the Follow app on our Apple phones to monitor our sons T1D. Mostly working very good. But PLEASE, build into the Follow App an override for the DND. Nights are when we need this app the most. To alert us if levels fall too low so we can help. So we are forced to turn off the DND in order to get notifications. And must now listen all night to dings for emails and so forth. Many app developers build into their system the option to override the DND. Dexacom has them built in, please add this to the Follow app so those of us caring for a loved one can get a good nights rest and still be notified if we need to assist. This simple override CAN SAVE LIVES!

  • will not open
by Laudhdikanxksjsbdj on July 1, 2021 at 1:03 am

there seems to be a bug that won’t allow the app to open on my iphone. this is a disappointment considering i rely on this app to take care of my family members with diabetes

  • Love the app - please add a widget
    by Behr1321 on June 30, 2021 at 4:32 pm

My wife and I love the Follow app so that we can monitor our 9 year old daughter who is using the G6. She keeps her phone with her at school which lets us see her BG at any time. Please as a widget to the iOS version of Follow so that we can add a view to our phones home page. The full app has an old style widget but please add an iOS 14 style widget to Follow.

  • Doesn’t work most of the time
    by Trout13 on June 29, 2021 at 9:29 pm

My wife even received a new transmitter from Dexcom. Still didn’t work most of the time. They finally said they’re having a problem on the iPhone with Apple’s latest updates. We’ll just wait it out until they get their act together

  • Crashes on opening
by tastyteacup on June 18, 2021 at 6:10 pm

This app used to work. Now when I open it, it immediately crashes.

  • Great App but…
    by Methos11299 on June 14, 2021 at 5:48 pm

Great app to help track loved ones with type 1 but it would be great to have an available widget available for iOS.

  • An important tool when caring for someone with T1D
    by Es94028 on May 27, 2021 at 7:50 pm

When my son first started using a Dexcom CGMS years ago, it was godsend in terms of both safety and freedom. Still, overnight stays away from home were a nerve wracking experience. Now that he is headed to college we have started using Follow. So far, it works very well — much better than when we tried a few years ago. Updates appear promptly, alarms sound without delay, the graph is easy to read, and in landscape mode you can drag your finger over the chart to see specific individual values. In fact, between the Dexcom app on his phone and the Follow apps on our phones we almost never use Dexcom receiver. We keep it active as a backup, but the apps are more convenient. One additional feature would be nice: the ability to know if my son has responded to an alert. The protocol we plan for college is that if there is an alert, he will deal with it then text us. It would be nice to know, though, if he is at least awake enough to acknowledge the alert and is therefore capable of addressing it.

  • Love it
    by jewels_2012 on May 26, 2021 at 11:06 pm

I enjoy the app but I like widget that comes with my daughters main app. Maybe have one so I can just have that to monitor on my screen.

  • Won’t Work With iPhone 12 Update
by Madkias on May 21, 2021 at 1:22 pm

The Dexcom G6 was a lifesaver for my elderly mother. Her morning lows would cause her to pass out, so my ability to follow her gave me peace of mind. Sadly, when I upgraded my phone, I can no longer use the follow app. Why can’t it be upgraded to a compatible version?

  • Struggling without update
    by Katie_T1Mom on May 20, 2021 at 2:42 am

We had older phones and the Dexcom and the Dexcom Follow apps and they worked fantastic. We got messages that the apps were no longer going to be supported - so we bought new IPhones. Both Dexcom and Follow apps have worked about 2% or less of the last 6 weeks we have had the new phones. I am grateful for the technology when it does work. I am hopeful it will be updated soon. 1) we have spoken to dex support several times 2) when we got our phones and turned them on , we didn’t have a choice and had to update me the software to the newest version.

  • Would be great if…
    by Beowulf32 on May 19, 2021 at 7:49 pm

This is a great app. When it works. Which is maybe 10% of the time. It’s for for weeks with no readings and then it’ll work for an hour. And then out again for at least a week. Figure this out guys.

  • Barely works
    by Spradlin88 on May 19, 2021 at 5:57 pm

We have been using the app for a week and most of the time it doesn’t show me the readings, like it’s not communicating or something. It goes hours without reconnecting. I’ve checked the device that came with the dexcom (it’s on and working) and we’ve checked the other phone that stays near my husband (it is also working) so it’s just the follow app not working.

  • Good app, one suggestion
    by Beatles196450 on May 17, 2021 at 8:13 pm

I really do like this app, it helps me and my wife know when her BG is high or low, especially at night. However, it would be nice if the high or low alerts stop sounding off as it detects her BG is going down (from high) or up (from low) so it doesn’t have us stop everything to see where she is every 5 minutes.

  • READ THE REVIEWS! This app and product needs help!!!
by Rabie Robby on May 16, 2021 at 6:25 pm

The idea of the G6 is great, but only if it works right. It has caused just as much stress on us and our daughter as pricking the finger…maybe even more. The readings coming from the sensor are sporadic and not accurate. We have talked with customer support and they have given us many reasons as to why this is happening. They are sending a new sensor in a week. That’s great but it’s more than that. Read the reviews so you know what you are getting into. No amount of money is too much if we can keep our child safe, but this is a HUGE cost for something that so far has hardly worked at all. Also…developers please listen to the people reviewing the app! It is terrible for the day and age we are in. Many of the app shortfalls could be updated easily if Dexcom actually cared to. So dissatisfied and disappointed.

  • Can we get
by [email protected] on May 13, 2021 at 12:10 am

Can u make it so the follow app gets notifications that the sensor is expiring or the transmitter the same the person gets would make a lot easier for us parents Other then that love it

  • App works great but allow us to bypass Do Not Disturb!!
    by Victoria6983 on May 7, 2021 at 7:46 am

I’ve had my fair share of the hair pulling that the G6 app and software can cause, but the follow app works great! The app works as it should as long as the person you are following has their device on them and syncing at all times. So the problem doesn’t lie in the Follow app site of, just in the G6 app. Don’t let those reviews deter you from using this app!! Devs: Can you please make it where these notifications can bypass do not disturb?? You have this function available in the G6 app for the Dexcom users, but don’t have it available for those of us who rely on the data from the follow app!!

  • No info
by ibsmj on May 3, 2021 at 9:23 pm

It only works sometimes. Most of the time it just says no data. Even though it is active on my sons end it almost always says no data. Not very helpful.

  • At times will not send alerts
    by p?nky on May 3, 2021 at 12:55 am

IPhone 11…IOS 14.5 at times if I don’t occasionally open the app it will not send my sons’ highs or lows. When I open it they will start notifying regularly. Please add a silent override in case phone is switched to silent on lows. Almost missed a urgent low from my son.

  • Lack of Alerts
    by JNewc97 on May 2, 2021 at 9:22 pm

Within the last week (without updating my iOS) I have stopped receiving alerts from the Dexcom Follow app. Alerts only come occasionally, and not always when they are supposed to. Do you know when we can expect an update if this app to correct this issue?

  • Can’t send feedback
by Gary W Martin on April 27, 2021 at 5:05 am

Using iPad follow Message box hides or cover ups the glucose reading A one line message using a 10 line dialog box So when my glucose is high I get a message box that says Glucose is high Hit ok I have to hit okay to see the number Also would be nice if I could have sent this feedback to them directly instead of thru the Apple feedback

  • Terrible
by blarhoo on April 27, 2021 at 12:11 am

Only works for about 2 minutes when my son turns Bluetooth off/on. Looking into Nightscout

  • Doesn’t work on iPhone 12
by grillatactics on April 18, 2021 at 9:05 pm

As others have stated they still have not updated the app for iPhone 12 users.

  • Peace of mind BUT constant alarms glitch!!
    by 3prettyprincesses on April 15, 2021 at 11:53 am

I have been using this app for 4 years to monitor my daughter’s blood sugar. I love this app. The peace of mind it gives me to be able to see my daughter’s blood sugar at all times is invaluable. HOWEVER, about a year ago the alarms continually go off every five minutes even after I have opened the app and acknowledge the alarm. Since I rely on this app at night to warn me of high or low blood sugars I can’t simply turn the volume off and it is beyond frustrating to have the alarm continually goes off until she gets in range! PLEASE fix this glitch ASAP!!!!

  • Horrible and useless App. Without it the actual product is useless.
by un de ad on April 14, 2021 at 9:41 pm

This is a horrible App! It never works. Tried miserably to use it for a long time over a year. I am paying thousands of dollars every year out of pocket plus the insurance they are are collecting and in the end the software fails to provide the readings for my son’s glucose monitor. Constantly dropping off. Useless. They have the most expensive glucose monitor system in the market but the worst software system. They need to go back to the drawing board and figure out all the bugs before you commit on something as expensive. And yes I did contact them, with no help! I will stay away!

  • G6 is wonderful, app is lacking
by The Redhead Group on April 9, 2021 at 3:37 pm

This is not a lack of love for dexcom, I am absolutely indebted to them for the incredible amount of control and freedom that they gave my 13-year-old T1D daughter. However the app for following her is incredibly lacking. The entire point of the app is to alert you if someone you’re following is too high or too low. Unfortunately for lows you can choose when you want to be alerted, for example “alert me if they are below 70 for more than 15 minutes.” We use this feature and it is incredibly useful during the day. However we have that one set at 15 minutes so that it does not wake my daughter or I for every little dip below 70. The trouble is that you cannot set the time for urgent lows. My daughter was in the 40s last night for just under 15 minutes and it never went off at all. Not the dexcom app on her phone or the follow app on mine. Additionally, it seems like there should be a feature that urgent lows alert even when your phone is on silent or in do not disturb, this does not happen. Those are all my real concerns, it’s a useful product but it makes me concerned that in a real emergency it would not come through for what it’s designed to do. This isn’t important, but I will add that the choice of the matching green color to Apple‘s phone and messenger apps make this App not stand out when it seems like it should. We truly love dexcom and are so grateful to the company, however it would be lovely if some more time and money was put into developing the functionality of the follow app. Even to make it as useful as the original dexcom app. Parents everywhere would be grateful!

  • Great tool but could be better
by copleycimino on April 7, 2021 at 12:53 pm

This is a great tool but it would better if I were able to see the events my person entered. With an urgent high or low I’m calling to make sure insulin was taken or food is being eaten. Sometimes it causes panic if my person doesn’t answer my call. If I could see these events entered on my app I wouldn’t have to worry. Any plan to add this feature????

  • Could use a Home Screen widget
    by the_zauriel on April 2, 2021 at 1:23 am

The app is what it is — basic, no frills, and reports my 15-year-old son’s glucose levels. Works fine on my iPhone 12 Pro, so I’m not sure why others with an iPhone 12 seem to be experiencing problems. The main thing I’d like to see from Dexcom with this app is a widget. They made one available for the main Dexcom app, allowing my son to view his BG level just by glancing at his home screen. But the Follow app doesn’t have one. I can’t imagine it would take too much time or effort to take the main app’s widget, change a little code to suit the Follow app, and release that. Another thing I’d like to see is better messaging. When I suddenly see “No Data” and my son is at school, I have no idea if his Dexcom G6 sensor failed, expired, if he’s just too far away from his phone, or if it’s doing the whole “wait up to 3 hours” thing as it tries to fix itself. As his parent, I should be able to see when his sensor expires at any time. And if his app says his sensor failed, I should be able to see that somewhere. Same if he gets the 3-hour message. Make it clear to parents (or any other guardian or family member) the *reason* our Follow app is telling us “No Data”. If both of these things were implemented, this would be a 5-star review.
