  • Love it

    Great tool for job opportunities

  • Students need this!
by True Story Tho' on June 15, 2022 at 5:32 pm

This is a phenomenal resource for students looking to develop professional experience. There are a plethora of employers looking to develop candidates who have not had an opportunity to acquire years of experience.

  • Straight garbage fire - worse than indeed, monster and career builder
    by Smellyalater121212 on June 7, 2022 at 4:49 pm

At least on the other platforms you can flag spam. This is a joke. My school offers this as an exclusive job board - nothing but crappy jobs, contract recruiter slime and free internships. At bare minimum make it possible to flag postings and direct messaging - I am glad I went and got a masters degree to be “exclusively” offered a role to groom dogs.

  • Constantly erasing messages
    by fcbarca90000 on May 31, 2022 at 1:33 pm

It is always erasing messages I get from potential employers. I see it in my email but when I try to open it in the app it says “cannot find message”. SO FRUSTRATING!!

  • Handshake is great except
by Caroline Carbaugh on May 19, 2022 at 12:28 am

I really love this app and I’ve had it for about two weeks now, however my complaint is I am unable to add documents to the app as somebody who is blind. I use this app with voiceover on an iPhone 13 and I’m seeing a glitch where it’s not allowing me to edit my résumé to apply for on-campus jobs of handshake and if you could fix that and a future update that would be greatly appreciated so I could use this app to my advantage thank you. I can’t even report a problem with the link you sent me via email because it just gives me articles that are not even helpful

  • I love this app so much
by kbbjewels on May 15, 2022 at 11:59 pm

Save time filling out individual applications with the usage of this app. Instant connection to great opportunities at a touch of a fingertip. I have benefitted greatly from using this app. Try it out if you haven’t!

  • App Disqualifies Good Employers for Stupid Reasons
    by Act1action on May 2, 2022 at 4:08 pm

From an employer perspective this app was a bit of a nightmare to get started. I expected this app to partner with schools to eliminate bad employment practices, what I didn't expect was to be blocked from posting a great job to students by pretentious schools over what kind of email client my company uses or type of website we had. You have to qualify to partner with universities & in order to do that they send you rejection scribbles that read about why you're not good enough. I was like "I'm sorry, my business has used gmail and Google products to turn into a successful small business that brings in $100k/year in sales, I am not changing my email to post a glorified Craigslist ad on your site." It's insulting to spend an hour setting up an account for schools to coldly reject you based on stupid things like your website isn't up to par (we use social media as our website, deleted our .com website because it was a waste of money for our uses). They don't ask why you don't need a website, right email, etc... they just reject you and ask you apply again once you're up to their ridiculous standards. While these two things were what stopped us from posting a series of jobs for students that paid at least twice minimum wage, we deleted our application because I'm pretty sure further scrutiny would follow and more demands on businesses would be made that acts like it's there to protect students but actually prevents students from getting a large number of jobs. Schools will reject you if the job your posting doesn't align with what the students major is. That means if you're an engineer student and I want to give you a break from that by offering you an art related job, the school will decide for you that it won't post that classified job post for you. While I think it's great to have students to be able to look up jobs based on their major, a job should be allowed to post to a school which doesn't align to their majors as students sometimes like to expand their mind and skills & in times of hard-to-find employment sometimes you do a job just for the money. At the most basic level, I found it insulting that this website and these schools wasted my time as an employer by insulting our business model & suggesting we change our business model in order to post a job ad. That is not your place to tell business how to run their operation. That is not quality control, that is way beyond partnering with good companies to find reliable employment. Waste of time for me and I'm sure many great gigs have been kept off the site for such stupid reasons.

  • Give me internship so I can graduate
    by Nk_view on May 1, 2022 at 1:37 pm

Been trying to land an internship job even even that seems impossible

  • Great concept and communication but no follow through
    by Madster.is.here on April 25, 2022 at 6:32 pm

I really enjoy the different aspects of the app however I find when messaging one on one with employers or talent acquisition managers that I can’t click in the chat the links that you’re trying to send to me it always sends a message saying there’s an error and to try again and every time I do it repeats the same message. Then end up having to ask the employer or the person I’m talking to on chat to send me the link separately.

  • Crashing iPhone 8

  • App doesn’t work at all
by Pinkalecious on April 15, 2022 at 6:52 pm

App doesn’t work at all!! Can’t even login, before that it crushed. Always

  • Garbage app
    by mattsgreat5 on April 15, 2022 at 3:13 am

It’s ok for networking and getting offers but feels clunky. I can’t replace a resume with one with the same name? Why can’t I open a link in safari? Want more reasons for 1 star I’ll happily give them to you.

  • Love Handshake
by Gunner Beal on April 8, 2022 at 9:38 pm

I really would like to see a “remote” filter being added to job search as well as in the location section on my job preferences.

  • Awesome!
by Pastor Tracy Prater on April 5, 2022 at 8:49 pm

This is one of the best job sites that I have ever visited. The fact that it is linked to my school makes it even more valuable and important to students like me who are looking for a career in their field. All I can say is “AWESOME”!

  • Stop logging us out
by Charlie 7586 on April 1, 2022 at 8:18 pm

For the most part I absolutely love this platform. But the fact that it logs me out pretty much every single time without me asking is getting really annoying. It really hurts usability when I just wanna go check a message and I have to go through my entire university’s SSO. This is a problem both on the web app and the actual app. Just leave me logged in like LinkedIn I don’t think there’s data private enough to warrant logging me out each time and if there is then use Face ID.

  • Bugged
by pierczy on April 1, 2022 at 2:02 pm

Unusable if you go to Purdue. My school requires a verification app to login to my school email. But when I use the verification app to approve the login, handshake closes out and asks me to login again.

  • iPad OS app needed
by Theoforos on March 2, 2022 at 7:56 pm

Feedback to Handshake app designers: It would be great if you design an app that works for iPadOS. Given the larger screen, the app will be better viewed and have more functionality that the iPhone one that works for both devices. Thanks

  • Fine arts major solicited for sales positions
    by vlb400 on February 23, 2022 at 10:21 pm

I am a fine arts major my degree is in screenwriting. My hope is to work in Cinema in some capacity either being a creative writer, set production work, production assistant etc. I want to work in the film industry. I’ve been out of college since 2016 and the only jobs I can find on Handshake related to my major is volunteer work for free or I am heavily solicited by sales recruiters. I am having zero positive experiences going through Handshake in finding a suitable career.

  • Wont open
by Asinnyl on February 23, 2022 at 2:27 pm

At first it would constantly force close. Now it wont even move past the opening screen it just stays there. Im getting notifications but cant even get into the app….

  • Cannot get past "Search for Schools" page
    by iS2mHp on February 23, 2022 at 3:23 am

I just updated the app because I was looking at a job, and suddenly kept getting the error message "Something went wrong. Please try again." However, now that I've updated the app, I cannot get past the "Search for Schools" page. I type in the first two letters of my school, then get the same error message: "Something went wrong. Please try again." I tried turning my phone off and then back on again, but that didn't work. I also tried deleting the app and then reinstalling it, but that didn't work, either. This is really frustrating. The app was working fine until five minutes ago. Now it's not working at all. Please fix this ASAP! Thank you.

  • Terrible app
    by Cryptoguy1 on February 19, 2022 at 7:56 pm

I received an email for a virtual interview on handshake. When I click the link handshake opens and tells me that I don’t have permission to do “that”. It doesn’t tell me what “that” is and they don’t have a customer support number either. You have to fish around the app until you manage to find where you can send an email to them. I still haven’t heard back from Handshake since I’ve sent an email. Employers please do not use this app for interviews etc. customer support is trash and the links they provide won’t allow everyone to open it.

  • Slow
by beeeeeeeledmxgxlamwz on January 31, 2022 at 8:39 pm

This app is incredibly slow and clunky. Most of the time it crashes when I try to open it and if ever does load, it takes a solid 30 seconds to switch pages or get to any sort of different screen.

  • Employers that use Handshake can’t use the app?
by ItsMeJTM on January 23, 2022 at 9:05 pm

As an employer, app notifications would be easier to pop on my phone, as my work email has a lot of additional security features that aren’t great for phones. I thought by getting the app this would help. There is no employer login availability. I hope the developers will fix this issue.

  • App needed for employers
by PONO Group on January 19, 2022 at 8:36 pm

App is great for students. However as an employer every time we go into it it asks us to choose our school. The app is designed simply for students. Not employers. An app interface is required for employers to login.

  • Need block feature
    by Ackley121 on January 18, 2022 at 8:58 am

Please make it possible to block other users. Some employers/recruiters basically spam users, and it’s very annoying.

It will not let me use the app. I download it and then try to open and it just shuts down the app every single time. I’ve deleted and re downloaded but it’s the same result.

  • Problem with Saved Jobs
by _student on December 13, 2021 at 8:47 pm

Overall, I’m pretty satisfied with the app. One problem I’ve run into is that the saved jobs that have expired cannot be unfavorited and removed from my saved jobs list. I’m wondering if that’s a bug with the Handshake app?

  • why
by StarsetDisco on November 19, 2021 at 12:01 am

there's an in-app browser now. you cannot, for any reason, pop a tab out of it into your actual browser. y'all, your app burns my battery, and i'd very much like to come back to the page i'm on later - opening it in safari would be ideal. i'm happy that not everything has to be external now, don’t get me wrong, but this is further limiting my control over my webpages.

  • Terrible Support
by DeveloperLuke on November 16, 2021 at 6:42 pm

This app doesn’t even work properly on iPad, isn’t updated consistently, and the web browser is extremely limiting, since they use their own ghetto web browser instead of the default web browser.

  • Marketing Positions
by watupjeff on November 15, 2021 at 8:56 pm

Not a good app if you’re looking for roles in marketing or digital media. I literally was only getting “matched” with sales/accounting jobs. I also kept getting harassed in my inbox by the same charter school job that I kept politely declining.

  • Not Receiving Offers
by workin hard for nuthin on November 11, 2021 at 2:11 pm

I have a valuable set of degrees but no job.

  • Needs more functionality
by Helpafrica on November 9, 2021 at 4:34 pm

Handshake is useful, but it lacks the functionality needed to efficiently use it. An iPad app would be enormously useful, especially for users who tire of staring at their phones.

  • Good app, but missing features
by EvanElevenRoden on October 25, 2021 at 4:06 am

The app is well designed and easy to use. It could use an iPad version. The search tool is useful, but a way to filter by only work-study jobs, and filter by “quick apply” jobs. MANY jobs posted aren’t real, and you actually have to apply separately after finishing your Handshake one. I wish I could filter those out.

  • Flaw
    by "!!A!!" on October 24, 2021 at 12:14 am

I find the location setting to be very frustrating. I was a student in Chicago Illinois, I have now moved and live in Nashville Tennessee. I have changed my personal setting as best I can to find careers in Tennessee however, the jobs still listed to me apply only to Chicago because I went to college there and those who reach out are only individual’s interested in the Chicago area. I wish this app would offer better location settings/relevant location settings for alumni. It makes it impossible to find a job after graduating.

  • Best Job site I’ve used!
    by LegoGuy32109 on October 21, 2021 at 1:41 am

Tried Indeed, Trello, LinkedIn jobs, all of them pale in comparison to handshake. The ui alone and innovative way to search for jobs is a selling point that can beat any other site out there. It may not have the amount of jobs like indeed, but you can find good ones very quickly that are the perfect fit for you. My school, IUPUI uses handshake and I was able to find an opportunity as a freshman, I was a freshman! I have only seen jobs pertaining to the technology sector, software engineer to data analyst type stuff. That’s because that’s all I’m interested in right now. However, the DM system where companies can reach out to you, or you can reach out to recruitment managers is an amazing addition to an already great job hunting experience. Try it out!
