  • Lack of Battery status for other users

    Kwikset can you please allow designated users to also be able to see the status of the batteries? Today only the number that set up the lock can see the battery health. Update. Developers the home is already shared. We have two devices, 1 iphone and 1 android. The iphone (shared to) does not see the battery status. Please fix this with the next update. Currently 1 user can only see.

    There’s an informational message stating “Lock status will refresh every time screen is opened” but this message blocks the ability to click users, history, and settings. Therefore, I can’t assign user codes, I’m unable to view the history, and most importantly am unable to modify the settings. Yes, I can lock/unlock remotely using the app, but that’s about it. The rest of the functionally is essentially false advertising since this pop up blocks the users ability to use the app features. Someone in user experience and/or the software engineering team should be fired over this. Serious oversight or neglect that doesn’t merit more than one star.

    App logs out randomly and then does not allow to log back in for a few times. Then it seems to work but if you kee Face ID on it still is unsuccessful. Then you try again without Face ID then it may work and you still need to go to account settings to toggle Face ID. Long story short UX needs improving

    This app is horrible. I’ve had a break in in my home, they knew my code and I was not able to change it because this app can never load. It always fails. I hate it. I would not recommend anyone to buy this product because of this app. I cannot change the code, cannot lock my home from outside my home, cannot see who’s unlocking it like it should tell you. It’s just pointless at this point. Please do not waste your money or time with this trash.

    If I could rate 0 stars I would. I saved my pennies for this lock. I set it up and was so excited to use it. It’s TERRIBLE. So many problems with the lock and the app is utterly useless. Extremely disappointed in a lock that was pricey and the app is worse. 1. EATS BATTERIES. I have the blink option off to save battery. I have to replace batteries every 3 weeks…and I only really use the lock to open/lock the door in the morning and open/lock when I get home for the evening. And no, I don’t use the app to open or close the lock because it never works. 2. The lock is extremely loud and sounds like it’s struggling. 3. The app randomly tells me when I locked/unlocked the door HOURS after I’ve done so or not at all. I keep tabs on this because I have kids. 4. I wanted an app because I have a two story home and when I’m upstairs I’d like to open it through the app. FORGET THAT…it works 2/10 times. And when it does it takes about 45-60 seconds to do it. Might as well walk downstairs lol 5. The app is soooo slooow. Even just working within the app menu etc. 6. If I’m out of the house, I can’t double check if it’s locked. It doesn’t seem to work, only when I’m near does that feature work, which is pointless. And one of the reasons I purchased it because I have pets at home and want to make sure they are “safe”. In my case, it’s more like a battery operated lock than an app and battery operated lock (which is what I paid for). I hope I can get my money back but with the customer service I’ve received, I’m not expecting much. My husband does construction and uses Kwikset always…after this lock, NOT anymore. 😞

  • Can't turn off notifications?

    The app is very rudimentary. As far as I can tell, there is no way to turn off notifications for the lock being locked or unlocked and I get constant phone alerts.

    UPDATE: two locks later; three user accounts created; factory reset instructions impossible to locate then when found, didn’t work on either lock. Support snd QA is ridiculous. They may make locks but the technology and support are awful. For a lock company they need some help with their ‘locking’ app. App has kicked me out, forced me to change my password and no longer supports my login. Aura lock stopped working four months after installation. Batteries replaced, contacted support, tried all listed hacks and lock will not retreat/move. Bought a new Aura and cannot get past the login screen for the app for install instructions and to add. After six hours of frustration, deleting app and returning product.

    The app hangs constantly, fails to perform firmware updates that it reports are available and generally feels like it was designed and coded by three summer interns.

    I had to change my Wi-Fi SSID and now the lock doesn’t connect to the app anymore. I deleted it and tried to factory reset it, still nothing. It’s needed for airBnB….what a waste

    Lock will not connect wirelessly after upgrading to IOS 16. Have several Airbnb properties and I need to connect physically at the locations through Bluetooth for the app to show lock online. Please update the app to work properly with IOS 16.

    The set up was a definitely an experience. Once installed worked well other than it will wake not only you up but the whole floor while operating on batteries. The app worked well on the original phone it was installed on. Once I change the phone and reloaded the app, all the data of access codes I created was lost. One of them was for my handyman. Have no idea how to disable it now. All the codes I created work, but no idea how to turn them off if need be. Tried deleting the app and reinstalling. Didn’t help. Tried to pair it with the lock according to instructions. Didn’t help. So much for security ! The two stars for looks only.

    *UPDATE* after factory resetting the lock the connection lasted a whopping 2 days. And a day later the lock got “jammed” beyond repair. We couldn’t enter the front door because the lock wouldn’t open. After entering the code we could hear it try and open. The deadbolt never retracted. Luckily we could get in through our garage. After getting in I tried turning the turn knob on the inside of the door…it would stick and take a lot of force to retract the deadbolt. I followed their instructions to completely uninstall and (once again) factory reset the lock to solve the issue. Nope. The deadbolt would not contract/extend on its own and took a good amount of effort to turn the knob. I was told it’s not a mechanical problem so it’s not covered under the “lifetime” warranty. I once again repeat…it’s JUNK and you should AVOID this product to save yourself several headaches. I was forced to run out and immediately buy a new deadbolt since we couldn’t secure our front door with this piece of garbage. It’s constantly “going offline”. And now we can’t do anything through the app. Our dog walker had been scheduled to come on certain days and we had set up her code to only work on those days. Well…no we’re going away for a week and need to give her access on different days. Since we can’t do anything we’ve resorted to giving her our code which is good for all times. We can’t edit our code, change access days, add more codes, or get notified when the lock is opened and closed. What a waste of time and money this thing has been.

    I've had the halo lock installed for over a year and it had been operating perfectly with the 4 users I added during initial installation. Today I went to add an additional user, which failed and was informed I needed to update the firmware. The update failed too. I deleted the app and then reinstalled it, logged into my account and now all the users are deleted. The firmware notice is no longer there, and it appears that I will have to completely delete and re-add the lock. This is a pretty lousy experience and I will not be recommending this lock to anyone any longer.

    Should be able to see multiple locks on the home screen, and not default to the last lock used, then have to go through the menu to choose a lock. Also should have a notifications option so you see when someone has used a code you issued.

    I am very disappointed. How is this garbage still being sold? This company, if it respected its customers, should have already suspended sales until it was in the minimum condition of use. More looks like an amateur product… just see the reviews. I want my money back!

    I can’t even get the lock to connect with Bluetooth just to set a code to open the door. This is a pain, now I have to uninstall this lock and buy a different lock and reinstall it. They should make an option to at least make your own code and use the lock without all the apps and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth mess! I have a new iPhone so that’s not the problem.

    Developers need to work on its user friendliness. Takes a long time to sync, and when you switch a name/code a lot of times it says sync failure but doesn’t let you know why. Overall the app is fine, but any more than 8 codes the app starts to move slow in my opinion. Just need to get the kinks out. Can be much better

    Once I update my phone to the iOS 16 this app won’t communicate with the lock anymore. Always offline and battery life…? Lets say there is NO LIFE🙄it drains in two days…just awful

    So many issues with this lock/app: first, the batteries need to be replaced every couple months or so, then now the app doesn’t even show the percentage so I got no idea when I need to replace them. Then every so and then, it goes into offline mode and I need to reset it.

    I was worried because of the low rating on this app but it works well. I installed this app and my keypad on my door today. The firmware update didn’t work the first time because I stepped away from the door for a bit, but it was perfect on the second try when standing by the door. I didn’t read the instructions while installing the lock on the door and ran into the issue of it trying to lock when I pressed to unlock and unlock when I pressed to lock so I had to read the instructions in the app on how to reset the door orientation which was really easy and the lock fixed it all by itself once I reset it. Adding and removing entry codes is easy. There are lots of options to set when and if codes are available. I think registration is probably the most tedious thing to do. Everything else is straight forward.

    Don’t know where all the bad ratings came from …… this app and Halo lock works all the time. Setup was easy, support was great when needed, batteries are easy to replace ….. been using for two years now, just brought 2 more for the back n side. What a convenience unlocking the door with a touch of a button before getting out of the car.

    As much as I like to like this app but there are sooo many problems and issues that I’m surprised that Kwikset big company like this can’t resolve a software issues -No matter how full your batteries are app only shows 80% -finger print works only 50% of the time every 2 weeks you got to update your finger print -app is so limited with features -not able to tie this lock to ring ( my $80 chiness) lock works with ring

    Purchased and installed in April. By July the batteries were down to 40% and the next time the door opened they dropped to 25%. Next time the door opened it dropped to 0%. From 25% to 0. Makes no sense. And no longer worked. Why is it dropping in such large percentages? Would replace it if I could find one that lasted a reasonable time.

    Thus far works great. Very ez to install and link with app. Initially thought i made a mistake purchasing after reading the app reviews. System does go offline when not at home, guessing to preserve battery life. Waking up lock is ez, go to 'history' and come back to main menu and system is awake to lock/unlock.

    Update: We have “auto lock” turned OFF We have not used the App to open or close the lock even once since changing the batteries 5 months ago. Today we cannot get into our house because the lock says OFFLINE & shows 10% battery. What used up the battery? No one knows! Updated: Kwikset sends me instructions to “update firmware” that do NOT work. Also: wow, the batteries die ultra fast even when I lock the door only sparingly with this App! Using Kwikset App Version 1.2.11 Every time I open the App on my iPhone 12 the App forces me to enter my password + receive a text. Why?? I have setup FaceID — won’t work. Got an email from Kwikset telling me to follow instructions for a “firmware update.” I’m standing in front of the door (Bluetooth range) and no firmware update appears under settings. True Amateurs when it comes to technology. ALSO- I was away last weekend. Tried to lock the door while on the freeway. The App said “must have WiFi”. What??? Very expensive lock & I get a host of absurd problems. That said, I was very pleased with how easy it was to replace my Kwikset deadbolt in my brand new house with WiFi-enabled HAL0 Kwikset. The instructions were clear & concise. The App worked beautifully the 1st time. Love the idea of being able to access my home with an App. If only the App wasn’t designed by junior high school students.

    Kwikset - how can you release such a terrible App? It is buggy and almost impossible to figure out for more than one user. Regarding the lock itself - I wish I bought the touchscreen code lock. Regularly have to redo fingerprints and it is a process because the app is so buggy. Make the app better. It has not improved much at all

    We bought the Halo lock set and expected it to be amazing, like all the other Kwikset locks we have used in the past. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience this time. We spent over 2 ½ hours trying to pair the app with the lock and couldn’t get it to work. We tried multiple devices, multiple factory resets, and even changed our internet settings, we even tried the support option and nothing. My husband installs security devices and access control devices and he said he would not recommend this to any of his customers. His advice to Kwikset is to nix this concept and start over. We have always loved the basic lock sets from Kwikset, but our first experience with their technological type of lock was a flop.

    We have a vacation rental management agency and use these locks for all of our homes. I enjoy them because having the ability to constantly change codes, along with seeing who enters the home and at what time is super important to us. Unfortunately, we’ve had to take about half of our locks back and get another because they turned out to be faulty. Half of our locks never have given us an issue. They always light up, never jam, and the code syncing always works. However the other half either stopped lighting up, jammed, or it wouldn’t allow us to update the codes, no matter if our phone was synced or not. The most frustrating is half of the locks were constantly offline, for no reason at all. The battery life lasts about a month for us, which is good considering how often they get used. This company could be a huge hit for companies like us, but they do need to work on making their locks more reliable.

    I read all these bad reviews and was thinking I should return this thing, but I installed it using the app guidance, great by the way and very nice work on the videos. After installing and linking to my phone via WiFi it asked to do a firmware update (not unexpected, the lock has sat in a box for who knows how long, it needs to be updated, DON’T SKIP THIS STEP!!!) After being patient and letting everything update and sync up the app and lock work as expected. I use a Linksys Velop mesh WiFi and haven’t lost connectivity at all since linkup. I would give this 5 stars if my wife and I could both have our own accounts and share the lock, but if you want t be able to control the lock with your phone everyone has to log into the same account, NOT COOL Kwikset, you can do way better on this part. Along with that same premise, I would like to share access with others who have the app, just like a digital key at the hotels, make this happen and you get 5 stars. All in all I would recommend.

    As others have mentioned, the setup interface is hard to use. The controls are oddly placed, for example, the drop down choices for security questions and how you choose the question are quirky and unconventional.

  • Worked for 6 weeks. Already failing.

    As the title said, everything worked fine for about six weeks. That’s when the first set of batteries began losing power and getting down to about 40%. It started off by not sending notifications when the lock would lock and unlock. Then it just stopped functioning remotely. I installed fresh lithium batteries and the charge indicator said 100%. But I am now having Wi-Fi connectivity issues, and still not sending notifications when the lock is locked or unlocked. Very disappointed. For the money I paid for this lock I should’ve got 10 years out of it. Not six weeks. Response to developer: I did call the customer service number and worked with a technician. We went through several steps as far as he could go, with no luck. It is assigned a case number. Strangely, three days after submitting the first review, it began working again inexplicably. Bizarre. But I’m happy it’s working again. Hopefully no more problems, but time will tell.

    I just replaced the battery on this thing a few months ago and it’s already dead. I went to log into the app to check the batter and it says my account is “logged out” “deleted” or “disabled” log in via the “web portal” …. WHAT WEBPORTAL?!? I tried to have it reset my account via forgot password, same thing?? What is going on?!?

  • Kwikset deadbolt aura not compatible with apple

    Tried two different phones and it wouldn’t register multiple locks. I had to switch to a Samsung phone just for this. I have an 110 unit building and it’s causing a lot of frustration. Do not recommend at all.

    I use this app to manage a lock on a short-term rental and it would be really helpful to get notified when the battery is low so people don’t get stuck with a non-working lock. I assume that would be one of the notifications I’d get if I turned notifications on. But I don’t have notifications on because if I do I get way too many notifications. I’m don’t care when people lock and unlock the door. Let me choose what notifications I want instead of feeding everything to my phone and interrupting me for no good reason.

    Purchased the Kwikset Halo lock for my door. I love that I can set codes for specific people to use at specific times. The app notifies me when someone locks or unlocks the door. And I absolutely love that I can just unlock my door from my phone! Everything works just as it should!

    My batteries last less than two weeks. It goes offline and doesn’t reconnect to app. You have to be right beside it, the only thing good about this lock is it’s pretty. Save your money and gas because if you purchase this for a rental you will be driving back and forth constantly.

    I have the halo lock and the battery drainage is atrocious. The app also logs me out all the time and I have to uninstall and reinstall it.
