Great app! It offers helpful tips throughout and critiques your moves after each game. It’s perfect for a beginner/novice chess player. Definitely 5 stars!!!

    Great help with my game

  • Great way to improve your game
by Mike Hallman on June 8, 2022 at 3:50 pm

I’ve been a casual chess player for my whole life, but recently I’ve begun studying and training more seriously. There are a great many great chess teaching and training apps out there, and Dr. Wolf sits easily in the upper echelon. The in-game instruction is invaluable. The ability to review mistakes is, too. And the lessons are well composed and easy to follow. Highly recommend.

  • Great app!

  • Excellent but limited
by Maximus Conquorus on June 5, 2022 at 7:25 am

This id very engaging and is bringing up my tactic and basic game fast. O sense in a few weeks ill need a better tool

  • Addictive
by GcumNic on June 3, 2022 at 10:13 am

    You will learn to play!

  • Ok App
by TheSlimestOfSlimJims on May 26, 2022 at 2:29 am

The overall coaching is good but you have to pay for lessons eventually and if you want to coach other people the app wants you to pay 50$ for it. Which is honestly a total scam when you are the one taking your time to coach on their app.

  • Disappointing
by hrhdisorieuhsgsg on May 22, 2022 at 8:32 pm

    1. Add game review from chess.com, tired copy/pasting pgns 2. Add more lessons

  • It’s actually amazing and really is free

I’m learning so much. The lessons are incredible for beginners and pros. Really well done app

  • Synchronization between devices?
by Nicolas Avila on May 19, 2022 at 11:04 pm

I absolutely love this app! The only thing that would make it better would be if there could be synchronization of games and lesson progress between devices (iPad/iPhone). Would it be too difficult to institute that?

  • Great Fun!

I have really enjoyed learning to play chess as if I were sitting with my Grampa!

  • Wow

I am extremely impressed by the quality of the lessons and the feedback. It really does feel like having a personal coach. I’m so glad I subscribed. Well done!

  • Great way to learn to play Chess well!
    by subdriver97 on May 15, 2022 at 4:16 am

This has really great lessons. Helped me to realize my chess has been stuck at lower levels since I have never really understood how to implement more intermediate and advanced chess ideas like pins, skewers, discovered attacks, etc. I also enjoy that the cpu opponent (Dr.Wolf) will do its best to present situations which will lead you t To Developers: One annoying thing is having to press “next” during lessons… I felt like I should be able to tap anywhere on the screen to move on…

    The Best

  • Add more puzzles.
    by 12alph25 on May 12, 2022 at 4:00 pm

I Would like to see lessons have more puzzles added in, a separate mode, i.e., after updating the app, Forking opportunities (10 new puzzles) , pinning opportunities (20 new puzzles) added from developers. Etc. Secondly, hope to see different style of pieces to select from in future updates. Lastly, would like our games to be saved when playing against any instructor to review later on. 5/5 stars for me. 💪🏽♥️

  • Excellent tool for just starting out at chess.
by DrTBam on May 10, 2022 at 5:43 pm

I knew very little about chess but wanted to know. I started on Dr. Wolf and not long after, I feel I could sit down and play someone. I’d probably loose at this point but I’m doing and redoing the lessons and playing “Dr. Wolf” often. I am getting better. There are so many ways to learn on this app: Lessons, Training and Playing. Even while playing Dr. Wolf is helping - if you want the help. Not to mention, it is fun and nearly addictive if you want to learn chess.

  • Must have app
    by tao4all on May 7, 2022 at 12:14 pm

This may be the first review I’ve ever submitted for an app. That being said this app is fantastic and a must have for people who want to learn how to play chess. I knew how to play chess but didn’t know the principals just how the pieces moved. This app helped me immense I highly recommend it.

  • Ai doesn’t play by same rules
by sallysellsshootshells on May 2, 2022 at 3:48 am

For example Ai Pawn gets to move forward and side ways. Also can take your Queen or Knight ect. BUT if you attempt the same move it won’t allow it. These are just a couple of the examples. I needed a quick stress release before bed. Coming across all this frustration was not it.

  • Great help for newbs
    by free2choose88 on April 29, 2022 at 10:51 pm

The lessons are great and really helped me develop my play as a total newb. I think a one time purchase would be more appropriate. I paid for a month and got through all of the lesson material. In my estimation the coaching function isn’t worth another $5+ a month to keep the subscription. Grateful for the tool that helped get me started but will be moving to lichess study feature to continue to improve.

  • No fun
    by JKrane11 on April 23, 2022 at 1:13 pm

When you get a checkmate, it often calls the game a draw

  • It’s a nice “coach” in your back pocket
by Drchizzad on April 21, 2022 at 12:02 am

This is one of the few programs out there that explains chess to you in human terms, not chess algebraic 🤣

  • Amazing
    by Bluejay115 on April 20, 2022 at 12:49 pm

This has got to be one of the best chess learning apps ever. I love the teachers personalities, as well as the way they teach. Awesome app

  • Would like to be able to concentrate on openings
by Acjetpilot on April 18, 2022 at 7:20 pm

Good Afternoon, I do enjoy this app immensely. I would love to see a way in which I could concentrate on practicing on different openings.

  • Love.
    by Rita.Ann on April 14, 2022 at 5:34 pm

This app is helping me learn so much and keeps it fun.

  • Lacking key features, including “fun”
by I create therefore I am. on April 6, 2022 at 11:59 pm

The main strength of this app is the spaced repetition for correcting one’s blunders… This is a feature which is incredibly useful. However the AI is not enjoyable to play full games against. AI routinely complains about gambits, including standard opening gambits. Lacks the ability to change board/piece style which is a weird omission. A fantastic value-add here would be linking to chess.com accounts and offering training based on the games there. I don’t see myself renewing without this feature.

  • Very impressive app
by LolaCoconut on April 5, 2022 at 4:28 am

I freaking love this app. I've never known how to play chess and this app is so smart, I love the lessons and trainings and it blows my mind how it responds with tips no matter what move I've made. I feel like there is a real person teaching me how to play chess and I love it, I'm totally hooked. I paid for the premium version and it's totally worth it.

  • Levels
by Arrowverlegend 2216 on April 3, 2022 at 9:13 pm

The levels are stupid because beginner is easy but then when you get to strong beginner its like five times that you should have levels 1-10 or something

  • One of the best chess apps
by beanthedog on April 3, 2022 at 8:39 pm

I’ve learned a ton quickly from using this app. I went from knowing next to nothing to going up to being rated 500 in about two weeks. It’s like having a chess coach on your phone. Well worth paying $35. I want to give the app five stars but I gave it four for a reason. The app doesn’t have a way to practice an opening you’re working on when you want to. I would love it if the app gave me the ability to choose what opening you want Dr. Wolf to play. I wish I could, for example, have Dr. Wolf play queen pawn openings so I could work on that defense with black. It would be amazing if this app had an opening trainer. I would pay extra money if there was an add on with an opening trainer.

  • Delightful
by 84 years young on March 27, 2022 at 7:40 pm

I’m so incredibly happy to have found this app. It’s fun, informative, and always a positive experience. Of course, not to mention, I’m becoming a wiz at chess.

  • Mr. Wolf - Chess
by ScipioAfricanis on March 22, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Never played chess prior to the app - felt competent, even confident after going through the beginner lessons and playing the AI for a 2 weeks. Once I go through all the lessons I’d like to try the coaching.

  • amazing for improving
by hdjnfub on March 21, 2022 at 9:01 pm

i started out knowing the rules of chess but i wasn’t very good. this app has taught me a lot and doubles as just a standard chess app if you turn off coaching. he gives you hints and shows what moves are best, and although it’s just a computer, it feels like you are playing with a person. overall a good app.

  • Absolutely wonderful app
by SubcutaneousPhat on March 14, 2022 at 4:56 pm

I cannot sing enough praises for this app. With a very casual, personal feel to the coaching, Dr. Wolf finds a way to gently correct mistakes, offer suggestions, and offers wonderfully constructive criticism. I find myself looking forward to opening up the app and sitting with what feels like my own personal chess coach. Absolutely worth every red cent.

  • My Best Leisure App

  • Great way to learn the basics
by Ubruni on February 28, 2022 at 6:34 pm

This app kicked me off to a good start after not playing chess since childhood. I’ve since tapered off and have been using Chess.com, but if they added more lessons I’d definitely keep using it - the instruction format is very good

  • Well explained for beginners
by sidebus on February 27, 2022 at 11:25 am

I am a beginner at chess and have been finding the lessons really well explained and engaging. Makes me excited to learn.

  • Fun along with leading
by WizWhelan on February 24, 2022 at 3:19 pm

For the most part accurate in assessing moves. Don’t skip the lessons. Seems to be updated from time to time. Very good beginners and intermediate players . Haven’t yet reached advanced level.

  • A must for any chess Player
by FliCityGuy on February 22, 2022 at 2:21 pm

As ab experienced chess player, I wasn’t expecting to learn much. But Sr. Wolf has definitely introduced some new concepts that have DEFINITELY increased my chess IQ. Rather you’re just starting or an experienced player. I’d recommend at least a few games with Dr. wWilf.!!

  • Help!!!!!!!!
by Snitznoodle on February 10, 2022 at 8:59 pm

This app has a bug. It happened before and I had to start over. I’m really mad because I paid for coaching. When I click on a chess piece now it enlarges it and when I try to place it it goes on the wrong place!!!! How can this be fixed! I’ve gotten so far in my coaching and I don’t want to start all over. There isn’t any way to contact anyone about this bug!

  • It’s easy to defeat
by Albitore on February 4, 2022 at 11:11 am

The expert level isn’t an expert for real, I’m not a grandmaster but I could win this level easily, another thing is the app wants to buy premium for even simple things like backward more than one time. The for master it has is only different in avatar but not in strategy… I think they need to work more on it…

  • 1.25.2022 version for iOS
    by rlryfbbx'n.kjj on February 1, 2022 at 4:11 pm

New version works great in portrait mode, but terrible in landscape. Smaller board and lots of wasted space on the screen. On an iPad in landscape mode, the board is only about 25% of the screen. Wish I could get the old version back.

  • Great app
by yhnmjuikmbhgdfh on February 1, 2022 at 2:12 am

This has helped me understand the game in the last month. I completed all of the trainings in about two weeks and found them very helpful. My only complaint is that I completed all of the trainings in two weeks… I wish there were more! I’d highly recommend this to anyone for a month.

  • Second time around
    by Splangy613 on January 24, 2022 at 3:57 pm

I downloaded and used the app when it first came out and it was pretty good. I reinstalled again today (a year+ later) and the game seems improved. However, the app isn’t affordable. It’s not clear at all why it’s a subscription. It’s also not clear why the dev can’t make sufficient money off $10 per install. Your income isn’t my business but I would put up with an ad heavy version of this app if it meant that I could keep using it and you could get some amount of income from me. Or, you know, you could charge something a bit more reasonable like a one-time fee that fits the budget of us chess students outside the US.
