This app is amazing. You learn a lot of chess tactics on this app.

  • Great way to learn chess
by Albertalbere on June 19, 2022 at 12:00 am

I ABSOLUTELY love his sense of humor. And this program has helped me improve my middle and end games.

  • Solid App
by Namhglit on June 16, 2022 at 11:36 pm

I am going through the free version, but there are still plenty of tips and information to teach the casual player a bit more. It’s a fun and well put together app.

  • Games for free all 99% of lessons are pay only
by dubulup on May 22, 2022 at 1:39 am

Some of the basic lessons (other than how to move) would be nice to have free to evaluate if it’s worth paying. Every time I enter the game it spams me to get some discount off the $300 lifetime price.

Fantastic app from the greatest of all time that manages to not take himself so serious. Happy to have gotten the lifetime subscription so my little bundles of joy/s can use it too.

  • Great learning experience

Awesome training tool. Just subscribed and getting a lot of help improving my game

  • I can’t even use the app or website.
by JakeyDonkeyBrains on March 31, 2022 at 12:08 am

I downloaded this started the free membership planning on buying the yearly plan. Saw they had a bundled offer for the other apps and wanted to get that. Went to log in on their website and because I logged in with my Apple ID I had to change my password. After doing this I’ve been completely locked out of everything. Can’t log in on the app or website, the options are non functioning with my credentials and can’t even request a password change. I can’t even begin to explain how disappointing this is. Even if this gets resolved I’m leaving this review because I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops just to use an app that costs money to use.

  • Bug fixes
    by Ziggy672 on March 20, 2022 at 1:23 pm

I love this app and am a 2nd Year member but recently several of the lessons are freezing while solving the problems . If the bugs can be fixed I’d easily give this app 5 stars .

  • Could be so much more helpful!
by mlkunz on March 5, 2022 at 11:56 am

This app has the potential to be astoundingly useful in learning the intricacies of chess. You get complex theory and gamification for specific skill practice leading to game improvement. But the games could be so much more helpful. For example, when you select the wrong checkmate strategy, it never tells you which was the correct one. That one change alone would increase the learning. Right now, you simply fail until you stumble upon getting it right. And the little info icons aren’t working (which would in theory provide a quick review to help you). I so want to love this app, but I’ve plateaued with little hope of moving further because it’s not actually teaching me. It’s just failing me. Help!!!!

  • A new way to learn chess
by Stuartmcil on February 20, 2022 at 5:26 pm

Learning chess through puzzles and lessons can be tedious and isn’t always super fun. What Magnus Trainer has done is created an entirely new way to learn chess that’s insightful and exciting.

  • Great app, but needs tuning
by dogginian on February 8, 2022 at 12:50 pm

Awesome app, but it is pretty buggy. Especially that airplane game where you have to click on the right square.

  • For beginners only
by OGSwankDaddy on February 4, 2022 at 7:46 pm

Deleted this stupid app immediately. Why can I not skip levels? Learn how the rook moves? Can’t move on until you do that? Come on

  • Different approach to learning chess
    by apetey23 on January 23, 2022 at 4:01 am

I have tried to memorize openings, and played tons of games but I really haven’t improved. This is a pretty approachable app and I have enjoyed it. Also I think the paid version is worth it.

  • Very Useful for beginners!
by PEPPA PIG AND THE BOIS on January 19, 2022 at 5:36 am

I knew nothing about chess but I always wanted to learn. Simply put - this app does not disappoint. So get out your wallet and debit cards and sign up for a yearly subscription!!!

  • This is what you are searching for chess
    by kamalaganesh1985 on January 18, 2022 at 9:35 pm

I have tried so many apps for chess training. I never see one like this. UI needs a bit improvement, other than that it’s a best app.

  • So far so good!… with only one request
by SavedByTheBlood on January 18, 2022 at 7:00 pm

The app is great as far as learning! Love the lesson categories! And love how it’s modern and fit for 2022. BUT! Only request is that lesson completion could be synced across platforms.

  • Surpasses other apps

This is the best chess app ever- but I would expect nothing less from the genius that is Magnus 👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • I love it so far!
    by kmcdeav1 on January 2, 2022 at 5:05 pm

Really a great trainer. Some of the speed games are difficult to figure out why your move is wrong, but the rest is awesome!

A well thought out educational platform.

  • 7 day paid free trial.
    by ol-davo on December 28, 2021 at 11:03 pm

The app is great for learning some new tactics and named moves/openings. There’s a few improvements that could be made in the app but overall a good learning tool. I’m just upset that the “free trail” deducted money from me immediately and started my month that very day. I emailed support 2 times over 4 days and no reply. So don’t expect any help from the app if you run into issues.

Love this app it’s easy to learn

  • Different views helpful moves
by MoniDiop on December 22, 2021 at 4:13 pm

I’ve gotten rusty at Chess. I like the annoying games that force you to strategize in different ways. It stopped my poorly aimed actions and allowed me to develop a clearer path to the win regardless off the amount of moves. I have notice i make less moves cutting out the excess using a more direct path to get em!!

  • Ok app

  • Good Representation
    by Marquesk101 on December 13, 2021 at 12:46 am

Good Representation fun playing with you ground running

  • Pretty good, but time pressure is ridiculous for a beginner
by Ronar Perfect on December 11, 2021 at 10:10 pm

A lot of good exercises but there shouldn't be so much emphasis on doing everything as quickly as possible for people that aren't already chess masters. I personally despise blitz chess, as not really having time to think means it's not even real chess to me. This app is often like that.

  • So far so good
    by Hitness78 on December 11, 2021 at 9:38 pm

This app has taught me more about chess than I've known since I learned to play in grade school. Like it alot.

  • Legitimately a good app
by kanrjdnd brain on December 9, 2021 at 8:03 pm

I used this app and it has a slick ui design, has content for all levels, and has helped me.

  • Try the "courses" icon
by BoughtLotsOfBooks on November 30, 2021 at 6:33 pm

If I had to choose one method of learning, Magnus Trainer would be it. Books have been good to have over the years and has been great for me for practicing tactics (they call it puzzles now) but for overall rounded learning I'm super impressed and grateful for Magnus Trainer. I'm speaking mainly of the "courses" button. It takes you through a logical progression of quick little chunks of learning. You can go all the way from learning how the pieces move, to practicing and getting faster at seeing mates with fun exercises that are a little like video games but simple and quick. Then also insight for openings. And that's just the parts I've been through... the basic course and the easy course. There's more beyond that but I'm not there yet lol. I think there's enough there to keep someone productively learning for probably a few years if they wanted.

  • Amazing app
by Nthnadm on November 30, 2021 at 12:40 pm

Games are fun, training is useful and I can see the benefits. 4 stars because it’s so expensive!

  • Chess by Magnus Trainer

  • Not helping
    by shans ska ssns s s zbx x h on November 25, 2021 at 11:49 pm

It hasn’t helped me grow at all it mostly teaches people how to move and that’s it.

  • Most excellent
by Drsinus on November 20, 2021 at 1:34 am

    Exactly what I wanted .

  • Perfect for beginners!
    by Marksman950 on November 20, 2021 at 12:38 am

I have been playing chess for quit a while and since using this training method my ELO has went from 900 to 1400 and just a couple weeks. Not only is this app a good base for beginners it also can improve your chess for rated players! Download today

  • Way too expensive.
by Herr Larsen on November 15, 2021 at 11:49 pm

Great app. I’d buy it. Maybe even subscribe… but $8 a month? Not unless chess is your life.

  • Fun
by Kid(8years) plag on November 15, 2021 at 12:43 pm

I like it, I don’t really have anything to say other than that.

  • Great app
    by Snowy_BearYT on November 14, 2021 at 7:13 pm

Great app for training or even just playing games. They have a wide variety of games that help and are very fun. Greats lessons too, helped me on my openings a lot and still learning. This is the first review Ive written for an app, so this means it's very good. Also page 48 of the French Defence has a typo

  • The pop ups ask to review
    by happy1419 on November 7, 2021 at 7:24 pm

Because I want no more pop-ups, and because I’m scared if I write a bad review more pop-ups will occur. Having said that; this is the best app to ever be created. I almost think Trump himself created this app m. Just like he single handed my created it because he alone has the best brain better than Magnus, better than China, better Russia. No one no one knows chess like he does no onec as b ever know more about chess than he does

  • Awesome
    by BocanegraKids1234 on November 5, 2021 at 1:38 am

This app is AWESOME!!!! My kids learned how to play chess in less than a week

  • Very good for beginners-advanced players in chess
    by Lev1 @[email protected] on October 24, 2021 at 1:34 am

This app is amazing for anyone who wants to improve in chess. From the drills to the tips and tricks this app has it all. You are able to choose how good you are at chess and the app will adapt to your choice and give you different lessons accordingly. I love this app because it really helps and guides you along to ultimately make you a better chess player. I have been using this for app for about a week now and have learned so much just by doing simple drills and following along with the lessons that it gives you. I really recommend this app if you truly want to improve and sharpen your skill in chess.

by the critic that counts on October 22, 2021 at 5:36 pm

When I'm black it's very annoying to have to play from the top down. If I'm black in the exercises then I should have black at the bottom of the board. Please fix this!

  • Magnus is a magnificent teacher!

I don’t want to give it a bad rating. I like the theory and educational part of the app. But I absolutely HATE STUPID crab and cabin games
