Meal ideas allows you to create your own ideas, as well as search other sources. When you perform a search, the same search is done for the other sources as you switch tabs to view the meals. Other sources currently include The MealDB and Spoonacular.

Creating a meal:
You can be as detailed or as simple as you want. All that is required is a meal name. However the more information you add the better the filters will work.
You have the option to:
* Store a photo for the meal
* Category(s)
* Ingredients
* Possible sides
* Prep Time
* Manually type the recipe steps or take a picture of the recipe
* Website for the source
You can create your own categories, ingredients and sides as well if the option you want to use isn’t pre built. These can be modified in the settings tab.

Favorites and history:
Each source keeps track of meals you have favorited and viewed. These can be accessed via the Heart and Book icons at the top right of the main screen for each source.

Shopping List:
If you tap on an ingredient from any meal, the ingredient will get added to your shopping list. On the shopping list tab, you can then check the items off as you pick them up at the store. You can also add misc items so all your shopping list is in one location. You can also share the shopping list via text, email, etc. to be able to share it to others.

For example, If you have a few recipes from another website, you could:
* Create a meal with the name of the recipe
* Create a custom category for that source
* Add the key ingredients for reference
* Add the source
* Save for future reference
This would group all those meals in one location. If you put in a few of the main ingredients while you are putting them in, the ingredient search would be able to pull that up as well.

Or, if you have frozen meals that you have a hard time remembering the cooking time or temperature, you could:
* Create a meal with the name of the food
* Take a picture of the front of the box as the meals photo
* Add to a category (side dish, appetizers, etc) or create a new category
* Optionally add prep time
* Take a picture of the instructions on the box
* Save for future reference
You could then reference this information by searching for the name inside Meal Ideas so you wouldn’t have to go back to the box.

Or recipes you have printed out, you could:
* Create a meal with the name
* Take a picture of the meal
* Add to a category (side dish, appetizers, etc) or create a new category
* Add ingredients and measurements
* Add possible sides
* Manually type the recipe steps or take a picture of the recipe
* Save for future reference

You can also share meals that you create via text, email etc. It will share the photos and other information provided via text. Sharing within the app is not supported at this time.

Meal Ideas supports both light and dark mode. Landscape and portrait are supported on both iPhone and iPads.

All meals, custom items (ingredients, categories, and sides), shopping list, favorites and history, are all stored in CloudKit. They are all synced across your iPhone and iPad.

Change log

Update history of iPhone App [My Meal Ideas]

Version 1.1.1 update:
– Added image compression to save space on the device and iCloud.
– Added an alert when typing a meal name to advise if what has been typed in so far is already in use.

If you have created a meal with an image, please go back and make a change to the meal. You can add a space to the end of the meal name and save it. Then go back in and remove the space and save again. This will save the image with the compression.
Any future meals saved will have the compression added automatically.
