  • Constant connectivity problems

    This is hands down the worst smart home/IOT app I’ve ever had to use. It’s literally worked once, and then randomly worked one more time. And it screwed up my ability to regularly connect to my Spotify through the native “devices” function. Awful. All around awful.

    I’ve had many problems with this system. Very limited capabilities of what it can play. Cannot find a way to play a podcast. Very frustrating. Do not spend your money. It doesn’t want interface with most tech in our home. Huge waste of money and it eats up our time trying.

    Numerous problems experienced with Nuvo. Software updates are practically non-existent. And when i did one, it shut down our system! I often have to reboot the router to get the system to work. Last time i had a problem — with Apple music — the customer rep said he would get back to me, never did, then his email reply said he left the firm. We bought our equipment less than 3 years ago yet now find out it’s discontinued. Touchscreen for the wall is too small and is so insensitive it is nearly worthless.

    The Nuvo player amp with my Sonos speakers sound superb BUT and it’s a huge BUT, there are a whole bunch of glitches that will drive you crazy! 1) If you stream Sirius satelite radio it will play for about 35 minutes and then just drop it and when you try to connect it will tell you “channel not available” on everything, but after an hour it’s ready to go again. 2) This system falls off our network at least once a month and doesn’t auto re connect. You have to run a hard wire to your router and re introduce the player to the network. This is ridiculous! Antiquated technology! I am searching now for another option to replace Nuvo because after 7-8 months of this nonsense i’ve had it!

    I love the idea of it. However, when playing playlists it gets stuck repeating the same song again and again. Or it interjects songs again into your music queue. Issues with volume also, sometimes louder randomly than other times. None of these issue if listening to radio.

    The compatibility with my IPad and IPhone is mediocre at best. If I group several sound zones together, I have to play a game of “catch me if you can” in Spotify to select the grouped zones. The grouped zones will bounce around be difficult to select. In the most recent update, I lost the ability to turn up or down the volume while in Spotify. This is an issue because now I have to unlock my device, go into the Nuvo app (which takes forever to open) and then I can control volume. I thought updates are supposed to make the product better?!?! The sound quality and the ability to control zones is great. The compatibility with my devices is garbage. If you are considering sound platforms, I would seriously consider a different device.

    Well let’s start with the app will connect with everyone’s device except mine and all the settings are the same. The app limits the amount of stations you can view on the Pandora section. It has a poor UI and very clunky.

    The UI for this app is stuck in 2006. Every single time I want to listen to something in any of my zones, I have to execute the service I want to listen to, twice. Every time. Also, the location of the volume slide is moronic. You are forced to use the volume buttons on the iPhone, otherwise you exit the application by swiping. There is a reason that NuVo is not supported by several home automation systems. It’s because their technology is in the Stone Age, and they will not adapt no matter how many people complain.

    My fiancé and I are very disappointed with this app. We just built a new house and spent a lot on f money to have speakers installed in several rooms. The sound quality of the speakers is great but the headache of using the app hardly makes them worth using. We constantly get the connecting wheel even when our internet connection is strong. We even bought a Linksys Mesh Wi-Fi router system to strengthen our signal throughout the house but it did not help. We can usually get music playing after fighting through the connection delays but even after that, we can’t change what we’re listening to because the app wazzes out. The group playing music disappears or the group appears but the actual zones playing music disappear. Even if we’re lucky enough for it to work correctly, which happens about 1 out of 10, the music sources are not very friendly. I use Amazon music—I can pull up my library but cannot shuffle songs or search songs within my library. We’re best off finding a station or playlist and forgetting about it. Another issue is volume control. The volume feature is nice in that you can set the volume for different zones. However, you have to go all the way into the currently song playing which is a bit confusing in itself and click on the volume button to adjust it. Clicking the volume control buttons on your phone won’t work unless you select the volume control button in the app. Additionally, this button is very close to the app “bar” at the bottom of the screen on iPhones. Because the volume button is so small, it can be very touchy trying to adjust the volume by dragging your finger. If you or someone else gets a phone call, trying to adjust the volume quickly becomes a much longer task than it should be to turn the volume down.

    The system sounds great however the user interface is the worst. Not sure how they can justify charging the price they do for the equipment when 60% of the time I can’t even get my app to recognize my zones.

    The latest version of the app 2020.2 includes support for AirPlay2, and by extension, Apple Music (not a direct music source integration yet). Also, with the new line of Nuvo tech that incorporates AirPlay functionality, even a legacy system can take advantage. What a huge improvement this is! Our system is working and sounding amazing in 2020! We’ve had ours since 2016 and it’s never been better. Thanks for these improvements and advancements.

    The music shared service (like Sirius) constantly says the channel is not available and stops playing. Once you close the app go back in a start again you have another 30 minutes of possibly uninterrupted music. If you try to play your Apple Music library it doesn’t recognize family sharing OR Apple Music that’s shared. Overall, kind of a let down for something that should play YOUR music and be a conduit to audio. Feels like there are training wheels on this software.

    The system came with my house, and it simply doesn’t work as advertised anymore. The integration with Spotify no longer works—it sends you to the Spotify app and tells you to connect to Nuvo through that except the system doesn’t show up. I can play via Bluetooth, but that’s utterly pointless and the reception is choppy. Paid a premium for the system with multiple zones, and this app basically renders it useless.

    Paid a premium to have a speaker system installed in my home only to have it rendered useless by a broken app. Every time it opens it demands to be updated, only to be stuck in an endless loop of update after update. It can’t even open much less play music. How did this get so horribly broken?

    A barely decent product just got much worse recently. I never could play complete playlists from my IPhone. Now it doesn’t recognize but maybe 5% of songs on my IPhone. To add insult to injury, half of my Pandora playlists no longer show up when using it in Nuvo. Why is this so complex for an app whose sole purpose is to simply play music? Terrible update.

    Compared to other options like Sonos, Nuvo is incredibly slow and clunky to use. Zones consistently drop off and need to be restarted, I’m constantly asked to log back into music services, and the app is routinely unable to find the system and so I’ll have to restart and recycle the entire Nuvo system. I highly regret selecting Nuvo as our in home music service.

    Since updating to the newest IOS, my app prompts a software update loop. It says the update is complete but returns to the software update prompt. I emailed the company a month ago but have yet to get a response.

    When you open the App it says you need to update it. But I already have the latest version. The alert blocks you from using it and the app goes into an endless loop. Please fix! I can’t use my Nuvo system at all anymore

    When playing my music on Amazon music, there is not an option for shuffle. This is really annoying when you want to set it to your top ten. Out of thousands of songs the last thing you want is for it to start at the beginning of the list each time. Please make a shuffle option for my music.

    I get a message, “ the nuvo system is incompatible with this controller and you must update”. But when I download the update the app never finishes the download and it just keeps spinning and saying “downloading”.

    Spent a lot of money to have speakers installed and this bloody app works sparingly. Most of the time it says it can’t connect or find my controller. I called in once but the guy wasn’t very helpful and kept insisting it was my phone. However, the app gave me and my husband the same error message on our iPhone 8 and now the 11 but would work on the first generation iPad. ??? The app was just updated but now it’s telling me I need to update so when I click to update, it says I have the most updated version. This has been a waste.

    Just downloaded and installed this update, but now the app doesn’t work on my IPhone 6. When I try to use it, it tells me that an update is needed. The update is already installed and doesn’t work. Don’t you test updates before they are released? How can I fix this so that I can use my system?

    I love my Nuvo player system- puts any competitor to shame ease-of-use and sound quality wise. I have yet to have the app fail to discover zones or any other issue I’ve seen time and time again with Sonos systems. Grouping zones is also exceptionally easy, and the Pandora, Sirius and Tunein integrations are complete and well-thought out. I don’t use Spotify but it seems that integration could be better. I really really really wish I could use Tidal natively with this system. I know I can AirPlay it or use Alexa but I want a complete integration of Tidal. I think it would be a perfect match sound-quality wise. Apple Music would be a nice plus too since it seems Apple is now allowing third parties to integrate. I’m also glad the firmware updates are infrequent and contain real features when they do come. I don’t like opening up the app and every week it wants to take the system down for bug fix updates. The Nuvo has never done this and I’m glad it doesn’t. Well designed apps like this take time and money to develop. While others may have splashier marketing the Nuvo system stands out with sound quality and ease of use. Just add my Tidal and this would be a 6 star review.

    This app is utterly confounding. It will pause playback one day. The next day, it will not play any songs, instead skipping to the next song any time the play button is pressed. The next day, it will say Spotify cannot resume playback because it is being used by another device, which is just not true. Just a really really poorly designed app, with little to no accessible UI. Very disappointing.

    The volume button is clumsy using iPhone X and higher as it can interfiere with the swipe up gesture. The app also doesn’t correctly display the playlist structure on the iPhone. If there are playlists inside other playlists it doesn’t display correctly. It can’t stream Apple Music. The interface is clumsy. I hope an update comes out soon to address these issues.

    I am happy with the Nuvo system. I do have a few feature requests: 1. Native SoundCloud support 2. iPhone X volume control location can be improved to avoid conflicting actions (as previously mentioned).

    The app is not very feiendly but my main concern is that it does not support Tidal or Apple Music, those services should be incorporated.

    Works well with Spotify. Very difficult to use Pandora. Cannot get the app to work at all on my iphone. The iPad app work but cannot control volume from this device. Have to go to another screen to do that. Very frustrating. Friends with Sonos say they do not have these problems.

    Please contact American Alarm in Ct. We are a dealer for Nuvo and we also have employees that use this useless product. It constantly has power issues and just doesn’t work. We are preparing a class action lawsuit against this company. Those interested Please contact us. Those looking to buy this product “DO NOT” buy Sonos instead. Nuvo is by far the most unrealizable product on the market.

    Please create an app that will allow me to use my system with the features I paid for! Every time I try to use my Pandora, iHeartRadio it gives me a message saying it can’t connect at the moment. Hell it can’t even connect to my device many times when I say just do that!!! Please help me understand how this app is not superb when we have a unique system. I am truly going to look into what my legal options are soon since it seems we are stuck with one option and one option only.

  • Spotify issues are unbearable

    We use nuvo as the music controller for our business, and its interaction with Spotify is a nightmare. The queue system that normally works on Spotify consistently plays songs over again or goes back to the wrong part of the queue. Would never recommend this and would have gone with Sonos if I could do it over again.
