QuickCal – The natural language calendar for iOS

QuickCal – The natural language calendar for iOS

QuickCal - The natural language calendar for iOS

Why should creating an event be such an event?

Create events and reminders in speed of thought with natural language! You'll be amazed how much quicker you can create events. Some examples:

✎ "Dinner at 6"
✎ "Pick up Joe tomorrow at LAX at 8pm"
✎ "Cycling class @6 for 1.5h"
✎ "Next Tuesday Jogging in the Park @8a for 90 min"

Just type for a few seconds or dictate your event – QuickCal will know what you want. As you type, QuickCal will show you what it is thinking.

You can also use a bunch of common shortforms for e.g. weekdays or month to save time while typing.

If you use multiple calendars you can easily tap on the calendar name in the title bar to switch to the next calendar. Or choose a specific calendar by typing a portion of its name.

In addition to this, QuickCal supports "Smart Reminders", which will create alarms at configurable time intervals, specific to how far in the future the event is. A meeting tomorrow? Reminder 15 min in advance. A meeting in 6 months? Remind a few _days_ in advance.
You can configure details in the settings.

QuickCal also provides a convenient view of upcoming events; pinch/zoom to provide different levels of detail on your calendar entries.
***You can even create an event for a specific day while scrolling through the list view or in month view with a long tap on a date.***

Enjoy a much easier and quicker way to manage your events!
Also check out "QuickCal" for the Mac!

Some useful hints:

QuickCal is very flexible. There is no fixed syntax. Most things should be intuitive. However there are few hints you won't find out right away.

☛ If you want to keep QuickCal from parsing words or numbers you type use quotes e.g. "Run 10 Miles"
☛ If a location is followed by a description you need to use ":" as a delimiter
☛ QuickCal has also some custom URI goodness for apps like Launch Center Pro. You can use one of these to launch QuickCal to a certain view: "quickcal://new", "quickcal://list" or "quickcal://month".

  • Automatically changes alarm
by MamaShani on 2013-09-24 at 4:27 AM

I have been using this calendar for several months and I loved it. It is very easy to add appointments. The problem: This is not at all reliable or consistent. For the last 2 months it has been automatically changing the reminder alarms that I have set. It will remind me of an event 6 days and 12 hours before it is supposed to (or some other random time like that) or not be set for an alarm at all. […]

  • My Quickest Calendar - good updates
by McSear on 2013-08-19 at 12:12 PM

Performs as described and runs smoothly over a few weeks use. I like the UI better than many other calendars, but the SIMPLE Work/Home INDIVIDUAL CALENDAR VIEW SWITCHING was THE biggest plus. I can tap the top calendar name (w/ the color indicator dot) to quickly see just ONE of my calendar entries (work, home, etc) at a time. So, for a fast and clear view this calendar outshines all the others I tested (7). For a more complex and slower schedule view I also use another app with a fancy tasks feature built in. =RECOMMENDED= I have an iDevice running iOS 6.1+ Feedback for developer: If "Birthdays" calendar could *also* be shown separately using the tap gesture you'd have a 5-Star app! […]

  • Great!

  • Fantastic
    by iphone4+itouch4 on 2013-02-23 at 3:03 AM

Update: Would love a setting to toggle the "@" or "location" indicator on and off - I usually include info like "@ Name of Restaurant" or "@ So and So's House" in the event title and would rather save the *address* in the location field, not have "Name of Restaurant" or "So and So's House" in the location field. Would also be nice if the various calendars (google, iCloud, and contact birthdays) were categorized separately in the settings. My google "Work" calendar (used) and iCloud "Work" calendar (unused) are indistinguishable, and I had to rename my google "Birthdays" calendar because, with the same name, I couldn't turn off contact "Birthdays" within the app without both toggling together. --------- I never use the default calendar app anymore - this and Week Cal are my go-tos, depending on what I want to do. Contrary to a review below, it DOES sync with my google calendar - I already had the default calendar app set to sync with google, and QuickCal syncs with the default app and then to google fine in my experience. It isn't *instant* to the web version, but it syncs to other calendar apps on my phone instantly. This isn't my preferred calendar-viewer (that's Week Cal), but definitely my preferred way of quickly entering new appointments or reminders. I use the two apps about equally, and the combo is a vast improvement from the default calendar. I'd love it if there were a way to occasionally override the smart reminders (which are customizable and pretty good) while entering text - such as "r 4hours, r 15min" - but it's a minor feature wish! […]

  • Wow.
    by Riverrat2411 on 2013-02-10 at 1:38 AM

I was making everything so complicate at first trying to tap the words name date time and location as if it was going to do anything and then just said F it and typed in the time and bam, and then the @sign with the location and it inspired it. Crazy! It's so easy to use now that I dumbed myself down a little, its replacing the calander app! This is great, I really needed something like this, thanks!! […]

  • Rock solid after update
    by poly_sci on 2012-12-18 at 3:34 PM

I use this almost every day now that I have updated to the current version. I find that it loads almost twice as fast as its main competitor under identical conditions and with the same calendars. The interface is more barebones functional and less artsy than the main competition, but QuickCal's advantage is that it is quick and always works. That's the main thing I care about. Nice job. […]

  • v.1.6 doesn't work
by texrngrsfan on 2012-11-29 at 3:38 PM

With the version 1.6 upgrade, the app won't open on my iphone 4 (iOS5.1.1). It sits at the splash screen and stays there. Prior to this update, this was a 3.5 star app. I love the natural language entry - this is essentially the only reason to use this app, and was why it made the front screen of my iphone for a long time. Other than that, the minimalist design is functional if not pretty. The default agenda view for QuickCal is fine, but in other calendar apps I prefer looking at my calendar in month view. The month view in QuickCal is ugly, so I stay away from it. There are other natural language calendar entry options now and this one just doesn't cut it anymore. […]

  • Good, solid, does what it says.
by Curious Rabbit on 2012-07-13 at 11:31 PM

I write "meet w/ client tues @ 2 til 4 @ client office" and Poof! it's done. There have been a very few cases where the QuickCal algorithm failed to generate the proper duration for an event, but it may be that I was phrasing it oddly. […]

  • Best calendar app I've found so far
by 100 Watt Walrus on 2012-04-21 at 10:47 AM

I've taken at least a dozen calendar apps for a test drive. Reasons QuickCal has the other beat: - Clearer and cleaner UI, for example the which-calendar color indicators are thin, bright vertical strips instead of small but space-hogging buttons, making it much easier to tell at a glance which events belong to which calendar - Dates without items still appear in the list view - Times take up minimal space while still be very clear - Fonts are lighter but much easier to read, and show much more when event titles are long - Swipe to delete events - Repeating event indicator - And of course the natural-language event creation Things QuickCal still needs to work on: - Splash screen on opening the app WAY too often, way too slow to open when you do get the splash screen - Too few option for Default Reminder (I like a 2-hour reminder, and this is the only calendar app that doesn't have it as a default) Things I would love to see: - Being able to customize reminders instead of being forced to use a handful of pre-determined defaults (I need 2 weeks and 2 days, for example) - Being able to customize repeat frequency (I often need every 6 months, every 3 months, and every 2 months) Yes, those two things would make QuickCal slightly less quick, but if they were added, I'd never need to touch another Calendar app again. […]

This used to be an indispensable part of my workflow, but I can't use this version anymore because it freezes whenever I try to add an event. I'll update my rating back to 5 stars once it's fixed. But after 2+ months without a fix, I can't recommend QuickCal in its current stat […]

  • Calendar problems
by Kerncakes on 2011-11-28 at 12:45 AM

This app worked great last week. Now, after updating to ios 5, quickcal doesn't handle my calendars correctly anymore. • Much Much better than the default calendar
    by pgk2008 on 2011-11-15 at 8:47 PM

This is a the best Calendar replacement I have seen, and ever getting better. Quick entry of new appointments, huge number of formulations possible, very intelligent interpretation of what you type. Haven't used Apple's crazy dials for setting up an appointment since. The latest addition of a month view including an availability bar is yet another feature that puts this way past Apple's offering. The recently added ability to see all past and future appointments makes this a complete calendar replacement. It's definitely moving to my 'front page'. Thanks for the continued development! A few remaining comments: - For list view, maybe add an option to dim dates with no appointments. Right now it shows a bar for every single day, which looks odd for periods where there are no appointments. - I would like the time bar to show colors according to Outlook appointment label, but maybe that data isn't present on the iPhone. If it IS available, please add option 'appointment coloring 'by calendar' / 'by label'. […]

  • Like Fantastical for MacOS!
by superclaw on 2011-11-11 at 8:22 PM

Just what I was looking for: an app that will let me quickly create a calendar event in my iOS calendar by using natural language. If you have tried Fantastical for MacOS, this app uses a very similar concept. It's a quick and easy to use front-end to the built-in iOS calendar. If you don't have an iPhone 4S with Siri, this is a good manual alternative for creating calendar events. […]

  • Spectacular app with great devs
    by n8henrie on 2011-10-28 at 12:57 PM

Just used QuickCal mobile to input my entire block schedule for my current rotation in medical school. Very simple to use, very impressive at parsing the input intelligently. Most importantly, the devs are exceptionally open to feedback and feature requests and are generally just nice guys. I've had them work with me 1-on-1 via email a few times now, I'm always impressed at the level of personal interaction they seek out with their customers. I highly recommend their products, but because they're intrinsically great products and because the support is also top notch. […]

  • Quickest for data entry
by Nick Nahme Taken on 2011-09-17 at 7:19 PM

I am astonished that this seems to be the only app with this far superior, faster, easier, data entry. If Apple had any brains left they would add this natural language entry to iCal asap! But 4 stars only, because startup is slow, editing is prehistoric, still no ipad version, only portrait mode, no update for a long time, etc. Developer, are you listening? We love your app and use it all the time - but this also means that every day we use it we wish it was even better!... TIA for the next version! […]
