Learning a language can be an experience that transforms your life. Over 25 years of language learning experience has taught Rosetta Stone one thing: everyone has the ability to learn to read, write, and speak a language with confidence. Try the Rosetta Stone app yourself for free.

Many online language learning apps will promise that you can learn a language in just a few minutes a day. However, there is a significant difference between memorizing vocabulary lists and speaking a language with confidence. Learning a language is about more than just the words. One of the mistakes new language learners make is treating language as an object or an end goal instead of as an experience.

Ditch the books, translator, and dictionary, and surround yourself with a language whenever, wherever with the Rosetta Stone mobile app.

  • Speech recognition
    by MD0872 on June 25, 2022 at 3:50 pm

Overall, I like the app. But, it doesn’t recognize when I say “hola”. And this is on the lowest speech setting.

  • Tutoring is Best Feature - Mobile App a little buggy
by Heehaw Dork on June 25, 2022 at 2:49 pm

The tutoring is excellent and is a must if you want to learn the language. You can experience multiple tutors, each having their own style of teaching and accent, which helps reinforce the material. The only issue I have is the mobile App has bugs and requires frequent restarts and log outs.

  • A Geek’s Review
    by kwash12 on June 25, 2022 at 7:26 am

I LOVE learning languages! Rosetta Stone is my FAVORITE, bar none, due to the unique approach that THROWS YOU INTO THE WATER. It is the only program that I am aware of that works on PRONUNCIATION. Worth every penny, every time!

  • Practice at your pace
    by JMStueve45 on June 25, 2022 at 1:43 am

A great program that provides the right level of challenge in order for one to learn if you practice regularly.

  • Worth every penny!!
by MommyInvestor on June 24, 2022 at 3:48 am

It’s a great platform which is easy to use anywhere. It allows for a lot of practice in multiple ways (visual, auditory, speech) to really learn the language and pronunciation. I also love that it grants access to more than one language!

    by yustang8005 on June 23, 2022 at 3:22 pm

Another Side note is that when listening to long sentences sometimes it is hard to understand, or work through the sentence. My solution to this is that there could be a slowed version of the sentences if you press a button, this is not necessary on single words. Thank you -a user

  • Very helpful just one thing..
by T.J. Lopez on June 22, 2022 at 9:30 pm

Overall, this has helped me so much in learning a new language, but it moves on WAY too fast. It will teach you maybe 2 or 3 new words then give you an entire sentence to translate. I would have to go over vocabulary sooooo many times before even trying to answer some of the translations. Also, it will put new things in sentences that it never taught. Only after 2 more lessons did I start to have a guess at what these words were. But it still has helped me a lot in my journey to learn a new language. I totally recommend this for people wishing to speak another language.

  • Better than Duolingo BECAUSE…
by _Felicia_ on June 22, 2022 at 4:54 pm

Duolingo, in my experience, is about too much input and not enough output. Rosetta Stone gets you thinking in another language rather than translating from your native language. There are some downsides to learning grammar when you don’t have any explanations — you might get confused about what tense you are actually using in some cases — but I find that the Rosetta system is extremely well-designed. I’m learning Mandarin right now, and I was surprised to find that I could correctly answer plenty of questions on a sample language test after only a few months of learning with Rosetta. You can pace yourself and come back to your lessons after a break, but studying a little every day is definitely the best way to go!

    by ReviewClub3000 on June 22, 2022 at 1:11 am

Having an issue when trying to resume offline download. Tried logging out, quitting the app, restarting; and still no luck. Hopefully developer will fix soon.

  • the best learning app at any age
    by Myangrybird2012 on June 20, 2022 at 11:56 pm

as of making this review, i’m 13, maybe a little too late to start learning a language. But this app makes that struggle bite the dust. i have a lot of spanish speaking classmates, and it’s hard to keep up if what they’re saying. Unlike Duo, this app offers live instructional videos, more ways to learn, more ways to complete lessons, lengthy tips of vocabulary, etc. even though some of this costs some money, i’d say it’s well spent.

  • Crashes as of 6/20
by JessiKLabs on June 20, 2022 at 8:47 pm

Can’t get past the splash screen. It crashes instantly. The app was useable until today.

  • Skip downloading this one!
    by Casey.anon on June 19, 2022 at 10:57 pm

Pretty glitchy considering I couldn’t even create an account

  • Not suitable for the visually impaired
by GunboatSmith on June 19, 2022 at 8:03 pm

Before you can even get into the product, the set up screens demand that you select a subscription, but does not give any information about what the options are, only saying the word”button” on each option. Even if you skip this screen, the next screen only offers you a free trial, and then you will be charged $109 for a 12 month subscription. It is a bit difficult to except and justify that high cost without even being able to use the application or courses site unseen.

  • Learning Spanish
    by bbab05 on June 17, 2022 at 11:21 pm

So far so good! I’m really enjoying learning Spanish through this app. My job is sponsoring my one year subscription but I’m thinking about getting a lifetime membership and possibly learning other languages.

  • It’s Glitchy
by Spelloquence on June 17, 2022 at 3:23 am

Voice recognition doesn’t hear me saying everything and when I complete an exercise it is slow to complete my days so I can move on.

  • Ok - I live in Japan
by TetropodTeacher on June 16, 2022 at 4:36 am

I’ve used this off and on the last several years. I live in Japan and have only found it to be a little helpful. It doesn’t focus too much on conversational Japanese that you need to use to get around. Some things like number qualifiers need more explanation. My biggest complaint is that if I try to use it with my Apple AirPod Pros it never catches what I’m saying when it’s checking pronunciation.

I am enjoying learning with Rosetta! It is a different way of learning a language than I had in school and very effective.

  • Works on Desktop, but App is useless
    by sk8rchic41123 on June 15, 2022 at 12:42 am

I have an unlimited membership and it works on my desktop. Every time I try to use the app, the sound doesn’t work (language prompts don’t play despite uninstalling/reinstalling the app multiple times). The microphone privacy settings are correct, but it does not pick up my voice either.

  • Not as good as they claim
by bpetruzzo on June 14, 2022 at 11:01 pm

Take note, the developer is going to reply to this review, but they’re not going to have anything of substance to say, and they won’t address anything that I have criticized year. They are just trying to distract from the criticism themselves. 1. It’s just an interactive text book. You’re still going to learn to memorize more than develop an real intuition like they claim. 2. Support is truly awful. 3. I’ve completed the second unit front to back three times with near perfect scores on every lesson, but still can’t pass the milestone at the end. That should really speak volumes about this app. It’s not because I don’t know the content. It’s just a very poorly devised quiz, which is frankly a running theme with this app. Ultimately it is one of the better language apps on the market, but that’s just not really saying very much because none of them are really going to help you learn all that well. Language learning apps are the flying cars of the smart phone and tablet era, big promises that just never came to fruition.

  • Best Gift Ever
by LydonButterfly on June 14, 2022 at 9:29 pm

I am fascinated with other cultures and their languages. I started off with French and then decided to switch to Korean and I really love how they teach. It’s easy lessons and I just try to put them in my daily life. I study one lesson about 3 to 4 times a day and repeat the process. One of my favorite apps I have downloaded.

  • It’s just how I expected it to be !!

  • Excellent class!!!!
by Sdravska on June 14, 2022 at 12:40 am

I really enjoy the classes because they are very enjoyable and they have topics that we use on a daily basics.

  • Amazing!
by a boo owcajsk on June 13, 2022 at 10:54 pm

This app is amazing, I don’t even know what to say. I have no complaints, and it doesn’t make slow progress. I’ve been using it for about two days now and I already know so much. It doesn’t compare your language to the one your learning, it uses visual aids. So good, highly recommend for people learning languages.

  • *Updated* Useless if you need to restart/repeat a lesson
by Darby's Girl on June 13, 2022 at 5:32 pm

Rosetta Stone doesn’t let you restart or repeat completed lessons, which makes the program a waste of money. I can repeat lessons on a free program, so why pay for this? All of the online instructions, indicating this is possible, are outdated and no longer apply. This is really something that should be addressed in an update. If I purchased the lifetime edition, but can only complete each lesson once, is it really the lifetime edition? ***Update: Thank you for your response. Your instructions could use a little updating. If you’re using the mobile app, you cannot reset your lessons from the Home Screen. You need to select Learn (right next to home on the bottom), then choose the lesson you would like to reset, then you have the option of reset or revisit. I ended up having to call in to get those details.***

  • No memorization necessary
by humanityFirst on June 12, 2022 at 1:19 am

You follow the prompts, and you see your vocabulary and pronunciation improved quickly. But be alert, because their voices can put you to sleep easily. So soothing.

  • THE WAY to learn a new language!
    by ay-okay! on June 11, 2022 at 7:28 pm

Rosetta Stone is so so good. A lot of people I feel like are on Duolingo. The problem with most language learning apps is they don’t lead you to fluency. It’s easy to forget everything you learn in your new language and hard to pick up if you’re taught the wrong way. See, apps like Duolingo focus on vocabulary more than actually getting you to fluency. It takes longer to get the initial vocabulary down and then you have to go out and speak with an actual native speaker to become truly fluent. Rosetta Stone is great because they have a genius way of teaching vocabulary that’s fast and easy. Instead of connecting the Spanish words I’m learning to the English translation, I’m connecting them to pictures. This is so valuable because this is how we learned our native language, for example, my native language is English and as an infant I learned English in a similar way that Rosetta Stone is teaching me Spanish. Rosetta Stone also offers live private video calls with Spanish speakers so you can actually become fluent. Again, this is so so valuable because the reality is no language learning app can make you fluent alone. You need to immerse yourself in the language and culture to know slang and just generally remember your vocabulary and have conversations effortlessly. Rosetta Stone also does a good job keeping you accountable without blowing up your phone with notifications. It teaches you everything about the language, and personalizes lessons for you depending on your needs. It is THE BEST WAY to learn a language, and goes beyond expectations. GET THIS APP! IT WILL HELP YOU KEARN A LANGUAGE!!

  • Such great lesson plans, incredibly glitchy on iPad
by saymylastname on June 8, 2022 at 2:55 pm

I have a top-tier iPad, and yet the software is so glitchy. The translate feature is clunky and freezes. The microphone doesn’t always register what I’m saying regardless of being in a quiet room, or using EarPods. The progress doesn’t register instantly, but can take 24 hours. While the lesson plan is great for fast learning, the software is not. It’s like this invested in all this great infrastructure with a beautiful highway and fast lanes - but the car it self to travel down that road is incredibly unstable.

  • Loving it!

  • Nice app to practice with Duolingo.
by minecraft is fun cat on June 5, 2022 at 8:05 pm

It is not that good to only use Duolingo. Duolingo misses some stuff and this app can help fill in gaps in your knowledge like pronunciation,

  • So many technical bugs detract from the learning
by Jeffcincy on June 5, 2022 at 2:50 pm

A great program in concept, I have a lifetime subscription. The numerous technical bugs, especially in the iPhone and iPad versions really detract from the learning. They seem to be getting worse vs better. Lessons advance when they want even if you have auto advance turned off, translations are especially spotty, sometimes they are there and often not. On the iPad the sentences get cut off all the time (wrong font size? ) and thus you have to guess what the 2nd part of each sentence was trying to say. Would be 5 stars if they got these issues fixed.
