  • Can't add wikis

Adding wikis does not work. The wikis do not show up when I add them.

  • Missing dark mode
by TheScarletLark on January 14, 2022 at 11:49 am

I’ve been using this app for years and it’s always been my go-to for Wikipedia. However, it’s strange that it still doesn’t have a dark mode setting.

  • Mostly good
by blindoptimism on December 12, 2021 at 6:07 pm

Dark mode would be greatly appreciated. My only other issue is every time you open the app, the first thing you look up always takes a very long time to open (45 seconds - 1 minute) and sometimes will not load at all. Would gladly pay for upgrade if these are resolved.

  • Ow, my eyes
    by snow-raven on November 22, 2021 at 3:34 pm

Love it, used it forever. Looking for a dark mode alternative.

  • Simply needs Dark Mode
by YoloToy on September 20, 2021 at 7:42 am

So I can skip among other apps at night.

  • Get with the times
by MGoines on September 8, 2021 at 5:46 pm

I’ve used this app for a long time, at least 7 years. It’s incredible how they never fixed the scrolling or resizing. And no dark mode in 2021

  • Please update
    by spac92 on March 2, 2021 at 5:07 am

Very disappointed that this app still hasn’t enable dark mode. I’d be willing to pay for the premium version if that was the case.

  • Oddly nostalgic for this app
by Mastertick on December 10, 2020 at 11:25 pm

I’ve used this app over 10 years now and I’ve oddly grown nostalgic of it. Been on my main screen for all of my iPhones. Still works amazing and does everything I need it to. Only wish would be for a dark mode. Here’s to another 10 years.

  • Wiktionary client
    by wesinat0r on October 15, 2020 at 5:51 pm

    Good wiktionary support. Enough said

  • Almost perfect
    by Ian22 on September 20, 2020 at 4:20 am

Best user interface of all the wiki apps. Just needs to be compatible with dark mode.

  • It’s 2020 get with the program
by Urda on August 22, 2020 at 10:26 am

Lack of dark mode integration with the system makes this a JARRING app to use. I’ve been faithful to the app since my 3G but I can’t handle this anymore. Get a dark mode and we’ll talk fixing your review.

  • Used to be great
    by troy272 on August 3, 2020 at 2:42 am

Used to be a great app but now it takes literally 5 minutes just to search for something. You can type something and click the link and the app will just sit there and freeze until it feels like loading.

  • An (Almost) Perfect App
by brndndghrty on July 24, 2020 at 2:33 pm

I, like many other reviewers apparently, am a longtime fan of wikipanion. It would be fair to estimate that I’ve been using it everyday for nearly a decade. It’s fast, easy to use, no ads. My only request is a dark mode, this is the only app I use regularly that doesn’t have one. I briefly switched to the official Wikipedia app for that reason but found its navigation and UI lacking in comparison so I’m back. I’d happily pay for the pro version if it included a dark mode. Thanks so much for your work on this app!

  • Great App but lately it’s gotten slow
by rameezhabib on July 8, 2020 at 11:10 am

This the simplest and best alternative to Wikipedia official app. I have been using this for many years. Only issue is lately the search results have got extremely slow, i don’t know what the issue is but hopefully the developers fix them.

  • Can’t copy anymore
by iamjared on July 1, 2020 at 3:58 pm

I’ve been using this app since it first came out. Probably the longest running app on my phone. Always had some bugs with links and certain files, but it wasn’t a big deal. With the latest update I can no longer select text in an article. Which means I can’t copy text. Dealbreaker. Guess I have to find something else.

  • Can’t Select Text
    by Reese5310 on June 20, 2020 at 5:16 pm

After updating, there’s no longer the option to select text, meaning I can’t copy any of the text and can’t look up any of the words in the dictionary or Wiktionary. Otherwise my favorite Wikipedia app, but please fix this bug. It’s very frustrating.

  • Best Wikipedia app!!
    by Jerel2u on April 18, 2020 at 9:57 pm

Better than official app! Easier to use! I keep trying the official app, and this one is still the beat!

  • Bookmarking missing?
    by LAX20531 on February 7, 2020 at 9:00 am

I can’t find the bookmarking option anymore. I see it under history but those are a lot of steps to just mark a page for reading later.

  • Very good app, responsive dev
    by Bait30 on January 17, 2020 at 7:29 pm

I love this app. I think it’s way better than the official Wikipedia app for reading. I only ever use the official app if I want to edit. Also the dev is very responsive. Both times I reported something, I received a response very quickly.

  • New Update Ruins Search Function
by hkkjkjkjk on January 17, 2020 at 4:51 am

Cannot see search options whatsoever after most recent update.

  • New version doesn’t work in dark mode
by chrsvd on January 17, 2020 at 1:38 am

Can’t read the text when you click on bookmarks and search results. Go back to the way it was before this update.

  • Busted 2020-01-16
    by Reviewer11235813 on January 17, 2020 at 1:03 am

Search results table has black text on black background on dark mode. Show stopper bug

  • Broke
    by Neoshadow1986 on January 16, 2020 at 7:53 pm

Whatever update you released today broke the app. You need to roll back that update or release a new one that fixes the app. I can see no search results now and I cannot see the table of contents for anything.

  • Dark Mode Incompatible
    by piecuch50 on January 16, 2020 at 7:24 pm

Update on 01/16/20 made using iOS dark mode impossible.

  • Dark mode, please
by WesNes on December 28, 2019 at 9:20 pm

    Desperately needs dark mode!

    by ATF6281914 on December 24, 2019 at 2:49 am

I’ve been using Wikipanion from the beginning. I think I first had it on my iPhone 3G; now on the XR. I’ve tried other Wiki apps but they don’t compare. The only thing is that I use dark mode on any app that I can but when I open this I get a blast of white light to the face which momentarily blinds me. Please add dark mode

  • Was Great, Now’s Late
by SeekerJones on August 23, 2019 at 5:41 pm

Guess the paid version is the only version being regularly updated anymore. Ok, I can get that, but would be nice if bugs could still be addressed in this version - like the broken navigation - when viewing a loaded wiki page, navigating by taping on a section hyperlink only works one time and on that page section, your view will remain unless you manually scroll, can’t use the section hyperlinks to navigate to any other section after the first choice.

  • Would like 3D Touch, but it’s fantastic!
    by Holodoctor1 on August 19, 2019 at 7:56 am

Would like 3D Touch (peek pop) like the official app. Otherwise this one is way better!!! I love Wikipanion! Love the persistent back/forward buttons and the search bar. Really, this app design is pure poetry!

  • Awful load times
    by GlassPrison484 on August 5, 2019 at 8:08 am

This used to be my absolute favorite app. It was probably the second app I ever acquired on my iPhone a decade ago. Now the load times are unbearable. I’ll often just use a Safari to search because it isn’t worth the wait. Please fix this and the app will be perfect again.

  • Very handy
by MRpub on August 4, 2019 at 10:02 pm

Extremely useful and easy to use app. However: I’d like to have a way to collapse or hide all the “Part of a series” etc. category/subcategory lists at the top of some entries. That stuff can go on and on and is just really annoying.

  • July 2019 Update = Frozen Pages
by Generic Nickname #24601 on July 14, 2019 at 3:02 am

Wikipanion’s rare update is a disaster: Now pages are locked in frozen stasis for minutes at a time while they load. It’s the same as the old problem, except this time, you see a chunk of the page (but it won’t move). In a way, it’s even more frustrating...

  • Always reliable
by LoobyLibby on April 22, 2019 at 3:46 pm

I've had this app on all my devices for forever. It's been a reliable go-to and a must have app. Easy to use, visually simple, no clutter. Long time user for as long as you update!

  • Most used app all-time
    by BKing12 on April 14, 2019 at 4:49 am

I’m a person who reads at least 3 Wikipedia articles everyday, even if it’s just random things that come to my mind. I got an iPhone 3GS in 2009-my first smartphone- and Wikipanion was one of the first apps I downloaded. I can proudly say I’ve used this app daily for a decade now and still going!! This was the first Wikipedia app ever made for the App Store and I’d say is arguably the best. I’ve tried the others and even the official wiki app- I never made the switch from Wikipanion. Thank you so much Robert Chin for creating the first Wikipedia app on the App Store and for making Wikipedia on iPhone a smooth process. I’m not sure how much attention your app gets anymore ever since the official wiki app came out, but I really hope you see this review and realize that you created one of the better functioning and most essential applications to hit the App Store during its early years. And again, this app is still a daily use for me. Still functioning quite well.

  • Was great for a long time but....
by If'n on November 10, 2018 at 10:32 pm it hangs, sometimes up to 30 seconds, when opening an article.

  • Past it’s prime
by Mrgrimmthebam on September 17, 2018 at 6:23 pm

The app used to be the best. I used it literally everyday. Some badness has happened to it though, and now it hangs when opening and when searching articles. It is become so bad, I have been forced to use the official Wikipedia app, and that app is horrible! Maybe the developer will fix it, maybe not. I am not sure I will know because I have deleted it. This app used to be so good, however.

  • Abandonware?
by eboldt on July 11, 2018 at 6:33 pm

Bookmarking is broken. There hasn't been an update in 6 months and attempts to contact the developer have gone unanswered. It's too bad because I haven't found another Wikipedia app with decent bookmarking.

  • Is there any plan to update this?
    by Azarias59 on June 2, 2018 at 4:13 am

This has always been my favorite wiki app, but recently there are problems with the display when I use it on my iPhone 8. Are there any plans to update to fix this problem?

  • Needs night mode
by Lil man47 on April 29, 2018 at 10:29 am

This app would be perfect if it had a night mode. Will be using the Wikipedia app until such an update.

  • Search!!
by Happy music fan on February 22, 2018 at 2:30 pm

Bring back the ability to SEARCH!! Otherwise what is the main point of this app?!?!

  • Deleted—too slow
    by Nf84 on February 18, 2018 at 8:44 pm

App freezes every time I try to open a page. No updates to fix this. Just deleted and downloaded the main Wikipedia app. So much better now.

  • (Almost) The Greatest App Ever
    by Guy96 on January 16, 2018 at 2:02 am

Wikipanion is easily the app I have logged the most hours into of any app ever programmed. I love it. It is superb and unmatched in its usability and features. I would marry these 1’s and 0’s if I could, but not until you guys fix the search bar. I hate sometimes having to wait >30 seconds for a Wikipedia page to load, with a wait like that I might as well use safari. Please fix this app and return it to its former perfection.

  • Showing its age. Good, but buggy.
    by Tom_From_Cowtown on December 17, 2017 at 4:22 am

I’ve used this for what feels like forever— probably at least 7 years. It’s been good, but it’s getting tougher around the edges. Really needs better slide-right-to-go-back animation. And if I 3D Touch the icon and select search, the search interface is not only completely messed up, but it plain and simple doesn’t work. Always returns zero results.

  • Best wiki app
by Chelsee Teleha on November 30, 2017 at 6:16 am

I’ve been using this app since around 2010, when there was no other wiki app. This is definitely the best one. Intuitive and simple to use.

  • Wiktionary completely broken in new version
by Nan Ma on November 29, 2017 at 6:42 am

On my iPhone X the wiktionary page is completely unusable. Wiktionary is my only use case in this app. Please fix it!

  • Plays audio files
by JoanDarkenSeal on November 8, 2017 at 2:16 pm

I replaced Wikipedia's own app with this one just so I could play all the audio files. It does the job.

  • Since the first app store
by He Who Cannot Die on November 5, 2017 at 8:20 am

Been using this app since it was the first wikipedia app available on the app store.

  • Slow
by Erin Toney on October 12, 2017 at 11:24 am

The app has become unbearably slow. It basically freezes after picking a page and a minute later it finally loads. I don’t know why it started doing this. Please fix this.

  • Perfection
by ingot Lipe on October 6, 2017 at 10:53 pm

Update 1: This app is so amazing! It is literally easier to use this app than wikipedia itself (and Wikipedia has one of the finest UIs out there) By the way, I would not use this app half as much if it were not for its spectacular app logo -- it's design perfection makes it no less appealing than the forbidden fruit that just beckons you like a neighboring paradise to want to click on it! Original: This app is wonderful! I was looking for a quick way to access Wiktionary, and until this app, I had to open chrome, go to wiktionary, then search. Now I can just 3D touch to search directly! From 3 steps to 1 ! And when it has to do with looking a word up, anything to help fight the troublesome burden of inertia is sweeter than the first sips of honey-laced port wine Thanks for the app

  • SLOW!
by Typhanus on September 22, 2017 at 5:56 am

The app still works, but in iOS 11, it is extremely slow! Please fix this

  • Not working on iOS 11
    by marv8397 on September 21, 2017 at 3:14 am

The app freezes whenever I search something in the search bar and then promptly crashes. 🙁 Please update the app for iOS 11!
