  • Frequent Buffering

    I love all the courses and educational content. I’ve actually been a longtime customer of the Great Courses and then the GC PLUS. Unfortunately. Since using the wondrium app I’ve had frequent buffering when I start course videos. I’m using apple products and they are up to date. Also, my internet connection is good w/ a download speed tests at 23…

  • Good content, buggy app

    I routinely get a network error when trying to use this app. It says I’m not connected to the internet. Trying to reload usually works but it can take a couple times for this to happen. Sometimes the lectures won’t advance within the course, but will start to play the lecture I just listened to again. And there is more than one course where the lecture ends in the middle. When I request support I usually get a message that they can’t replicate the error on the website. I usually reply that I’m not using the website, I’m using the app. I’ve never recieved a reply to this. And forget about trying to use the the apple tv app. Wondrium needs to devote some resources to stabilzing the app.

    Love the app but make it possible to watch on the upper right hand corner and scroll through the phone like Netflix, hbo, and Amazon prime.

  • Far fewer courses than before? App VERY buggy

    I can’t help but think there are far fewer courses in the catalog than when I last subscribed about a year ago, before the branding change. Still $20/mo but *really* seems feels like a limited and sparse array of content than before. There were a lot more history courses last time. What gives? Where’s the rest? Why the branding change? Why charging same amount if you’re reducing the library? The app has many amateurish bugs. Off-by-one index errors, one course now consistently crashes app iff I tap on it on the Home screen but not if located otherwise, weird random stop/pause. The biggest annoyance is when not on wifi (and have downloaded some chapters, if I pause playback, I have to unlock phone, go to app and it behaves like it’s launching anew then tells me it’s not on network (yeah, duh) then I have to tap downloads then try to remember what chapter I’d been listening to then hope it remembers where I left off. More fun is when off-by-one index error has cropped up (not consistent!) then you get to figure that out. So for heaven’s s sake do not pause?!? Don’t worry it will keep playing in background for every single notification announcement that comes in, so you get to try to differentiate between the two voices. Come on those are amateur bugs.

  • Terrible dev team; app is barely functional

    Constant playback issues, and problems airplaying from iOS to a standard brand and model smart TV. Buffering issues. These all come and go. Have been experiencing this since the start. Latest issue is network error (that isn’t a network problem) resulting in video crash when opening the app. Jfc guys, axe the terrible dev lead and hire a better dev team or stop outsourcing it. This is basic stuff….

    I’ve been a Great Course purchaser for at least 15 years. The Apple TV app is bugging and just plain terrible. Then when it does play the speaker and the video don’t line up. Terrible terrible terrible. Probably gonna cancel my account because why pay for something so sub par

  • Many missing lectures

    We have this app on our Apple TV. It is absolutely awful. We originally subscribed when it was Great Courses Plus. That was great and well worth the price. Then they added a bunch of other cruft and changed the name to Wondrium. Now, it is slow to load, and many of the courses we might like to take have no lectures. I suspect that what happened is they removed a lot of the Great Courses—most of them, in fact—and failed to update the app to remove the corresponding cover pages. I am considering dropping my subscription. For example, I am using my iPad to look over the app now. I am interested in the music courses in Great Courses. When I click the “view all” button, the screen goes blank and stays that way for a long time. I tried a couple of other genres that had a “view all” button and the same thing happened. This app needs a ton of work to make it useful again. And if they continue to whittle down the number of Great Courses offered, I guess we will quit this subscription entirely. UPDATE: The app on iOS on my iPad is much better than the one on Apple TV. The one on iOS has improved a bit. The one on Apple TV is still absolutely awful. I added three courses to my watchlist on iOS, but the additions did not show up on the Apple TV app. So I will keep the subscription. But the Apple TV app still drives my non-technical husband crazy.

  • App doesn’t work on iPad8

    This app constantly locks up on my iPad8. I have to restart the device, or delete and reload the app to get it working again. It’s easier to use the browser version, which has fewer features. Boo. ETA: And apparently the developers think that I, the user, am somehow to blame and should contact customer support, lol. I am smart enough to use a functional app, thanks. I am not the problem. The app doesn’t work on my iPad8. Fix the app and stop insulting your customers.

    I cannot tell you how wonderful the math courses with Dr. Sellers are. My oldest (14) has always struggled with math, and as a homeschooler, I’ve tried different techniques and curriculums to help him. This is the first time I can tell that a real lightbulb has come on and he’s truly getting it. And I’m finally understanding things that I struggled with in school, too! The way he teaches is just fantastic. I love that he talks in a normal conversational tone, not patronizing or as if he’s teaching children. And he explains everything THOROUGHLY and clearly. He gives you the techniques in detail step by step and gives 2 or 3 examples. Then he gives you a problem to figure out. He goes over that problem in detail just like the others, so that if you do make a mistake, you can see where you went wrong. But so far, neither my son nor I (because I started doing it with him because it’s so great) have made mistakes because by that time we are clear on how to do it. Except one time when I made a dumb counting error lol. Thank you so much, Dr. Sellers and Wondrium. You are turning a teenager and middle aged adult who have both always hated and struggled with math, into interested math scholars!

    I had to sit through a 60 second intro that I was forced to sit through and watch. Put an option to skip. There’s absolutely great content, but some of it needs to be updated, modernized I mean. Like HD quality, at least.

  • No control of downloads!!

    Prior to traveling I try to download a variety of lectures. When I tap on the lecture it is not downloaded yet. I click on download and it tells me I can’t initiate the download again. Another download is in process and it will begin when this is finished. Makes sense except it is bull crap. No other lectures are downloading and after 2 days of excellent wifi and 5g nothing more has happened. My only recourse is to complain and hope someone actually reads the reviews and gets a fix for this. On Netflix and Audible you can visualize what is downloading and control it. Unfortunately no forward thinking here.

    I sign in, that stuff goes away and then I click on a video and it asks me again, and so I do it again, and then it does it again when I click the video

    I’m an early adopter of this app and have watched it go downhill. I don’t have this issue with any other of my many streaming services. They need a better datacenter and to fix bugs. While the catalogue is great, using the app on an iPad or AppleTV is often miserable. The sound track gets out of sync and restarting the app doesn’t help. Over a year ago, tech support told me to uninstall and reinstall which is a major pain when using an AppleTV as it will work for a month or so. Sometimes after an update or reinstall the app shows icons for content but when clicked on, there is an error message that it cannot be found. The only fix seems to be to use a web browser to add it to one’s watchlist. Lately I have resorted to downloading lectures on an iPad to watch but they is slow and defeats the purpose of streaming on a TV. I have had this issue with tvOS 14 and 15 and using iPadOS 15 on the latest iPad Mini Gen 6 and even Chrome on an MacBook Pro with 32 gb of ram.

    While I love this app, it tracks your location, identifiers, contact info and usage app. There is no reason for this app to track location since it is not offering location based content It also collects your purchases, user content e.t.c

  • Audio sync issue ruins everything

    The content is great or would be if you could watch it without the audio going out of sync every single lecture. Starts off fine and then it will skip back a few seconds of audio but the video does not. You have to exit a lecture and come back in for it to be synced again only for it to desync again a few seconds or a few minutes later. It is really hard to learn from a lecture when this is happening as the visually do not match the audio.

    Early in each lecture a sentence is repeated and from that point on the audio and video are out of sync. This is very annoying and makes any lecture difficult to watch, as we don’t know which description goes with which picture.

    Please! Fix the bugs! 7 moth later and I still face the same problem. I’m using an ipad. There’s no update to make here. I dont have this problem in my galaxy phone though. May be is on apples devises? March/6/22 This is an excellent educational resource. Is more than what a was expecting. My money was well invested. I just have a technical problem with it. It crashes a lot. I downloaded this app a few weeks ago and since day 1 every time I try to open it I have to wait with a message in the sreen that says “completing subscription”. Now, today is something different. Same screen message but I cant do anything. No video shows up. What are you going to do about this technical problem? I would like to continue being a subscriber of this app. I paid for a year but I dont want to continue having this problem. 8/8/2021

    I just purchased access to the app, but I quickly realized that much of the content is a few years old. I’m mostly interested in the science and historical parts of the content, but it’s not covering stuff you can’t find on YouTube. The second part I find a bit strange is the content seems a bit “light/ commercial”. Like the historical parts does not cover different subjects/ parts of history as good or in-depth as I hoped. But it might be the app cover topics outside my field of interest in a better way.

    To be clear upfront, this low rating does not relate to the content library. If you want academic and instructional content, the catalog is good. My problem is with video playback in the app, which is terrible. I’ve unsubscribed multiple times because it’s such a pain trying to watch video in this app. For some reason, the video plays smoothly but the audio occasionally skips back a couple of seconds such that the audio and video are out of sync. I have to then exit the video and resume it. And I’ve tested to make sure it’s not the videos themselves—I’ve rewound over the bit that skips and it doesn’t skip again in the same place the second time around. It’s also happened in multiple different video series, both on my phone and on my Apple TV despite having deleted and redos loading the app. The only reason I didn’t give the app a one star review is because I suppose it could be worse, but honestly it’s enough to ruin the service for me.

    So I go to open the app today to look to see if they have a series on a certain topic. 5 minutes later I’m still watching a terrible intro video telling me all the reasons I should download an app I already own. And then it froze. So I give up.

    They changed their name and billed me for a second year with no notice at all. Contact with customer service was extremely unproductive, telling me what I alreafy knew, that I had cancelled my membership that day. Of course I did. I would have cancelled before renewal if I knew it was coming up. So, I’m out $150 for something I’ll never use.

  • Content great but app buggy

    I love the content so much but the app makes it so frustrating. In Apple TV there is a glitch that makes the audio lag the video a few seconds. You have to back out of the video and restart. This can happen several time in one video. This has been happening for over a year and the company knows about the problem but somehow it never gets fixed. Also since switching over to Wondrium, lots of videos have no content. I never had this problem when it was great courses plus. I wish they would fix these problems because it’s some of the best streaming content.

    Please fix this. During most lectures audio will stop working properly and you can hear the same sentence twice, after which it drags behind the video and the subtitles. I have to exit the lecture and hit continue again. Sometimes a few times per lecture.

    I am frequently surprised how many “Missing lectures - Course has no lectures” errors I see even 6 months after the big switch to the new brand. Please fix this bug as soon as possible. Could be a great app otherwise.

    The content is wonderful, but it seems that every time I watch video, the audio and video gets out of sync making watching very distracting. Given that I have a gigabit internet connection and mesh Wi-Fi, I think this is an app or infrastructure problem. Please fix this!

  • Love the courses, the app needs work

    To start, let me say that the courses offered by the teaching company have been uniformly outstanding. Interesting and informative, I am continuing to enjoy subjects I never had time for in school. Prior versions of the app had stability and “freeze up” problems, but the latest version seems to have solved those. My only real complaint is that when I am listening to a lecture and get a phone call (iPhone) the lecture does not stop, requiring me to tell the caller to hold on while I change from phone to Wondrium app and stop the playback. Sometimes even when I am not listening the lecture starts up when I answer the phone. Very annoying, Please fix!

    Wondrium app poor. Slow response, doesn’t return last screen position when looking, buttons to start course often not work, long delay when course does start. Many other glitches that were not in the old TGC App. Needs serious attention. Old TGC courses are still great. Added Wondrium courses mediocre, repetitive, and in obscure and less interesting areas. If future courses are in old Wondrium style instead of old TGC style, less of a interest in subscribing at the high fee. This review is more than 6 months from change so there was time for app repair & new content addition to address these issues.

  • Excellent content, meh app

    Wondrium is the place for undergrad level introductory course like lectures. There is a ton of variety and they are generally excellent. The app is a bit annoying though. Three issues come to mind. First, “Continue Watching” is never on the front screen when you open the app. Choose any other tab to get away from Home, come back to Home, and then “Continue Watching” appears with your most recently watched courses so you can pick up where you left off. Annoying. Next, you cannot go full screen and have the white “grab” bar at the bottom of the screen disappear like in every other streaming app ever. Annoying. Finally, there is no ability to adjust quality/data usage for either streaming or downloads. One size fits all. Also…. Annoying. If they were to fix these three things, the app would be MUCH better.

    I tried watching a Robert Greenberg lecture on the Apple TV and the audio kept glitching and getting out of sync. All of the other content on my Apple TV works flawlessly. If this app is properly updated and maintained it could be an extraordinary source of learning for many people - I suppose it could now as it stands but only with a considerable amount of frustration.

    I have used GCP/Wondrium for years and love it! But for the past 6 to 8 months a VERY annoying issue has arisen with the Apple TV app. I can usually watch 8 to 10 minutes of a video then the audio does a brief repeat of prior seconds then stays out of sync with the video thereafter. The only way to fix it is stop and resume the video and hope it doesn’t do it again 8 to 10 minutes later. This has been going on for 6 to 8 months at least. FIX IT! I would hate to have to cancel my membership after many years .. but this is annoying enough a problem to make it necessary.

    Very glitchy on Apple TV. Visual and audio gets unsynced and sometimes wont come back on. Have started several courses and cannot complete them. Very annoying.

  • Great app, but has one problem

    When I’m watching a lecture, frequently the audio will repeat one segment but the video continues normally. This causes the audio and video to be out of sync for the remainder of the lecture which is quite annoying. If this is remedied this is definitely a 5 star app.

  • Downloads do not work

    Love the app, BUT downloads only work if you have a data connection. What’s the point of even offering downloads if I need to be online for them to work? I work in a remote location without internet service. I depend on downloads. Imagine my disappointment when I get to work and realize nothing I downloaded will work

    I have loved The Great Courses (now Wondrium) for their courses for several years. However, their app is completely useless. It has literally never worked past two clicks for me. This is over the course of over two years making random check in tests to see if I could expand my access this amazing content. I’ll keep trying, but their app is completely useless.

  • Wish I could login

    I’ve not been able to use it. Won’t allow me to login. Keep getting error message that it is unable to connect to server. Not sure why. Everything else on my phone is. Apparently, it also must connect to network (not cellular data) first time it’s used or it won’t work. Without it connecting to server or cellular data - not useful. Very disappointing.

    The content is amazing. But I am about to cancel my subscription because the app is so glitchy - both on the iPad and the Apple TV. After about 10 minutes of a lecture, the audio and video stop syncing and I have to close and reopen the app, or just stop watching the video and only listen to the audio. This seems like something that could be fixed for the price of the subscription.

  • Does Not Connect to Apple TV+

    Although I enjoy Wondrium’s courses, I prefer to watch it on my 75 inch Samsung TV. Unfortunately, I have not been able to link the Wondrium app to Apple TV+. I can link The Great Courses, but it costs $7.99 per month with Apple. Instead, I have to mirror my Ipad content onto my TV screen. The company has not responded to my request for assistance.

    forced watching of a startup commercial telling you how great the service when login fails is terrible. iOS app randomly hangs unresponsive both on iPad and iPhone during course selection. Video playback should remove header (time, WiFi state, battery level, Etc) and watermarks.
