NightCap Camera

NightCap Camera

  • Photos don’t save to album
by paaamc on 2020-03-11 at 7:18 AM

All permissions are enabled, but taking photos literally does nothing and doesn’t write out to photos. There is no error message or anything. It is just a completely useless app in its current state.

  • Good night lighting, horrible zoom
    by Sawasdee-ka on 2020-02-29 at 1:08 PM

If you hold your phone steady, the picture will focus so it is a longer than normal process to take a night or low light picture. The zoom feature is absolutely horrible.

  • Night cap excellent app, thank you
by Divamer on 2020-02-28 at 2:29 AM

    I love it

  • Terrible
    by kekes8989 on 2020-02-19 at 12:06 AM

Worst night camera I’ve ever used. The directions/tutorial how to use the camera are not clear. The Camera doesn’t take quality pictures, It takes a picture and then when you move It recreates a moving photo, not a still picture (ex. Taking a picture of stars, i move after the picture is “done” and It makes lines from the stars). Not a fan of this app at all. Wish i could refund

  • Don’t waste your money

I wish I could get a refund. This doesn’t work.

  • Great, Fantastic camera
    by GG-309 on 2020-01-29 at 12:23 PM

This is someone who’s a space crazy elderly person , I’ve always wanted to take pictures of what I’m looking at but my Android didn’t allow me the app that you have given to me, my very first picture was the ISS flying overhead, then after it vanished out of sight there in from of me was Orion, Taurus, and the Pleiades, second picture. I’m learning this curve and lightning is the next, love the manual control and the absolute finished product, what really takes the cake is when I show people the pictures they marvel at what camera are you using. I tell them my cellphone and you need to help them close their mouth!! THANK YOU guys. Love this and if you ever add on to this with an upgrade PLEASE INFORM ME !!!

  • Amezing!

I bought this app 2days ago before I got a nice Northern Light at Abisko, Sweden!!

  • A must-have app!
by Andy in Annandale on 2020-01-28 at 11:43 PM

Extraordinary for night-sky photography! Nothing else like it. Expands the ability of an iPhone camera so much, there’s no reason not to add it.

  • Edit: Noisy images
by Scruffy....the janitor on 2020-01-20 at 1:53 AM

Edit: I was able to reduce noise by setting the camera to a lower ISO and higher exposure. Definitely better than the stock camera; and less noise in low light than filming with Filmic Pro. I’ll be using this regularly! This app does not reduce any noise when videoing or photographing in low light. That’s why I got it; so it’s kind of useless to me. If you plan to buy this app to take good night pictures with an iPhone 8 I would recommend looking at other options.

  • Nightcap Camera is amazing
    by Power1001 on 2020-01-17 at 4:23 PM

This app has so many features and is easy to create amazing unique artistic images.

  • Waste of money

Don’t waste your money. The worst app I’ve ever bought.

  • Buggy maddenly slow
by JDDHammer on 2019-12-13 at 10:17 AM

Just a slow buggy mess on my iPad Pro. Waste about 10 mins setup only to wake up to an unresponsive black screen and no data for a night. Will just have to wait another week for the opportunity to record what I need to record. No concept of the ux for what you might be trying to do.

  • Insane app!
    by Shree30 on 2019-12-02 at 7:25 PM

iPhone camera is so versatile, yet the native app lacks features. This app makes the most of those features. Money well spent.

  • Good app, easy interface
by bizzy b frey on 2019-11-17 at 1:43 PM

Easy to use, well laid out app. Thanks

  • Not as good as the new stock camera app
by lazygetter on 2019-11-14 at 1:42 AM

Well, sad to say, but the night mode is not as good as Apples night mode. I tested it in same location with a tripod and same exposure time. Apples night mode does better when hand held too. Hopefully stars mode/star trails mode is better.

  • Northern Lights
    by MaryP61 on 2019-11-02 at 5:30 PM

I purchased this app shortly before taking a 12-day cruise to see the Northern Lights in Norway, and I have to say, it worked like a charm. It’s really easy to use (I’m not particularly tech savvy), and I got some excellent pictures of the Northern Lights with my iPhone. I was very happy with it.

  • Nice job by the developers
by Kelebek Bb on 2019-10-31 at 5:10 AM

Not is this app comprehensive and amazing, but the app’s website has great tutorial video to enable the use to master the components. I’ve been using this app along with my lenses. The combination has resulted in some beautiful night time photography.

  • A very nice app
    by Reggiedj2 on 2019-10-31 at 5:00 AM

I’ve only had this app on my 8+ for a couple of nights and I love it (r‘.

The app crashes every time I adjust the exp, wb, iso or focus. iPhone XS. When I’m about to take the picture the app crashes. All adjustment I did in preparation to take a picture are lost. Please fix the problem. I spent money to use the app but I can’t.

  • Worthless for moon pics
by jlcouncil on 2019-10-14 at 2:23 AM

Don’t bother purchasing for moon pics

  • Not worth the money
    by Shooter405 on 2019-10-04 at 2:49 AM

Sorry but this app is a big let down. Doesn’t do hardly anything with IPhone 7. Nothing but blurry pics no matter how you adjust the settings. Use your money wisely and purchase a decent DSLR camera and astronomy telescope for real astrophotography. FYI tutorials are not helpful either.

Downloaded on iphonex. Does not work at all. Simply gives an era message that it cant access photos. I don't want it to access photos just the camera. Complete waste of money.

  • Be aware

Everything was working great and then one day the app just stop saving pictures. As far as I’m concerned $2.99 down the drain.

  • Xs camera is lagging? Anyone else??
    by Jakeem2000 on 2019-03-26 at 2:28 AM

In light it’s normal at about 24 exp but at night it goes to 1600 exp and lags a lot!!!!! Help!!!

  • Looks promising but can't get it to work
    by User9013829104 on 2019-03-23 at 2:40 AM

At a minimum it could be user error but the interface is not very intuitive to guide newbies in the right direction. I had a simple goal. Take a picture of the full moon 🌕 as it looked to my naked eye: large, bright and with some shadow detail on it's surface. Tried several modes and constant fiddling and could not get an acceptable picture. It was bright but not in focus and it never showed enough detail of the surface. I don't expect an app to make me into a NatGeo/Nature photographer with large full moons, rising over the distant horizon, but I at least expected something better than the stock camera. Would be willing to give it another shot after a major update....

  • The best time lapse app for iOS hands down
by Drallamekard on 2019-03-21 at 11:20 PM

Time lapse photography is my hobby, and I use a variety of hardware and software to do it, from a GoPro to a mirrorless camera to a retired iPhone... and I wish all of that hardware had the software that is Nightcap. Easily the best thing about this app is its ability to combine its virtual slow shutter function with its timelapse function. This is amazing if you want to capture wind, blur moving people out of public spaces, or just make motion look smooth. The latest version appears to have resolved one of my two major complaints about the app: it used to have problems with smooth exposure ramping in slow shutter mode, causing big exposure jumps when shooting a sunrise for example... it appears that has been resolved in my last few shoots, and I imagine (although I haven’t tried it yet) that I could do a beautiful night-to-day timelapse with it and have it come out seamless. (The other complaint was how if the phone runs out of battery during a timelapse the whole video is lost, I haven’t looked into that yet.) Thank you so much to the developer for making this, it has turned an old iPhone I no longer use into my favorite timelapse camera. Cheers!

  • Seems good so far
by Mr Means on 2019-03-14 at 8:17 AM

Seems like it will get the job done

  • Very Useful
by Muleskinnerslide on 2019-03-01 at 5:32 PM

This is a great app to get far more from the iPhone camera then the Apple camera app provides. One feature I would like to have is a volume button snapshot shutter option so that I could use my Bluetooth remote camera shutter with this app. Hopefully in a future update.

  • Doesn’t work
    by 123dew on 2019-02-21 at 1:01 AM

Sadly, it doesn’t work on an iPad at all. Not worth the money if u have an iPad.

  • Great app!

My go to a weather app.

  • amazing
by friggenhammerrrr on 2019-02-03 at 1:24 AM

i read the tutorial on the bus on the way from reykjavík to see the northern lights. everything i got came out great. took 2 minutes of tooling around with it to have it mastered. friends/family thought i used a professional camera when in fact i used this cheap app, a $10 little tripod, and a $15 clip on wide angle lens. wish i could post the pictures here to prove it. idk how anyone can give this a bad review, but it’s clearly user error.

  • Baby I’m amazed
    by 12string on 2019-01-30 at 11:15 AM

I haven’t yet used every feature. Still figuring the best way to get the effects I’m looking for. But I’m amazed so far with the control I do use.

  • Works Great
by ItsJonny(Not Really) on 2019-01-26 at 7:09 PM

Didn’t even know that my camera had this capability... it works amazingly well good job

  • Not great
    by RichieRich850311 on 2019-01-07 at 11:15 AM

Doesn't have nearly as much as I thought and you have no option to choose a picture from a different album or edit them

  • Please add RAW capabilities
by Von Veelder on 2019-01-07 at 12:12 AM

Great app and my go to for night shots but please add RAW capabilities. Thanks!

  • Crap
by ObjectDust on 2018-12-29 at 4:00 PM

Read their information before buying. All the pics they have are not just from the phone they have attachments etc. waste of money and a scam.

  • Amazing for the northern lights!
by John Hention on 2018-12-28 at 1:45 PM

My family was alerted when a KP index of 5 started at 1:30am we started out to find a great place to take pictures I tried to find the best way to capture the aurora I found this app, bought it, and it worked great super simple and easy to use plus the pictures came out great!

  • Low light phone photography made possible!
by Stargezzr on 2018-12-09 at 2:21 AM

I have been using NightCap Camera app for more than a year, primarily in long exposure mode. I use it mostly for imaging nebula with my telescope and a night vision device, but I have also captured galaxies and many open and globular clusters. I can positively say that without NightCap and my night vision device, my efforts would be fruitless. I especially appreciate that NightCap will average photos for a period of time which is user set; this eliminates almost all noise that would otherwise be present in the image. You can see one or more of my images in the NightCap gallery... astrophotography with a phone! I give NightCap my highest recommendation.

  • Good for older iPhones only
by Avayatrue on 2018-12-04 at 8:54 PM

This app worked pretty well on my 7 Plus but is useless on my XS Max. The Max takes outstanding low light photos. Much better than the app.

  • This app works so amazingly well
    by TJLAL91311 on 2018-11-21 at 7:18 PM

This app is so good for nighttime photography and northern lights which worked like a charm on my trip to northern Norway it caught the auroras like an expensive camera but it’s really cheap. 5 stars

  • No good video quality
    by Athena_75 on 2018-11-21 at 3:44 AM

I took my first picture and it seems ok but I unfortunately my videos are terrible, they look blurry while recording and they play real fast when reviewing... am I doing something wrong ?

  • Pleasantly surprised!
    by DiazJ22 on 2018-11-16 at 7:10 AM

I can’t believe the power my camera had all along. I just wasn’t using the right tools to access it. This app allows you to see things, at night, that you can’t even see with your own eyes. Truly blew me away. I downloaded many apps looking for a “night vision” option on my 6s Plus and by far I am more than pleased with NightCap! Won’t ever need another night anything app after you install this one! Under priced but it over delivers which as you know can be hard to find in the App Store at times. I would definitely recommend!
