  • A great deal
by Ben Pie on 2020-03-19 at 5:28 AM

This is hands down one of the best photo editing apps on iOS. To an extent it can compare to adobe illustrator but a miniature mobile version. I use it for album covers and it’s great. I strongly recommend it.

  • Absolutely the worst support.
by Qigong Master on 2020-03-13 at 4:04 PM

This company is deceptive. The sell inferior products only to then sell a working product under a different name so you have to buy it, instead of them fixing this crap that you already paid for. I see YOU!

  • I really love it but...
    by Aznerol20 on 2020-03-11 at 6:10 PM

I’m a beginners photographer and this app helps me a lot and I’ve been having it for 3 years and it’s easy to use. However the reason I didn’t give it a 5 stars is because I use this app on my phone and iPad and this app doesn’t back up so that both devices can have my work wherever I left off. So that means if I upgraded into new devices that means I would have to start all over again. So I’m really hoping that y’all can add that to the app some how because it would help a lot.

  • Pixelmator Has Become My Go To App for Everything!
by vsatips on 2020-03-10 at 9:55 AM

Update March 2020 I have a lot of iPads because I write about them. I noticed on one that my custom palate was full so I can’t save unique colors anymore. I was hoping this was just a problem for that iPad because oftentimes one's software may become corrupt overtime. But it’s now occurred on several other iPads as well. Would it be possible to add some additional space in the color pallet for more custom colors? Or, if that isn’t possible, how about giving users the ability to delete old colors off the palatte to free up space for new colors? Also...I’ve been a beta tester for the Photos version since it’s early days, but recently it’s become unusable because it won’t open. It doesn’t show up in Test Flight either so it can’t be updated. If this is part of a bigger plan...that would be a great thing to let your beta testers know about! __________________________________________________________________ Over a several year period Pixelmator has gone from being an app I bought because Tim Cook featured it in an Apple live event, (but which I thoulght was too hard for me to learn,) to being the main app I use for virtually every aspect of photo editing for both my work and my personal life. I have 2 websites...one on technology tips...the other on life style, & a Youtube channel. Keeping them all current with great looking content occupies me 24/7. Much of that time is spent working with images, because I use lots of illustrations for all 3. In addition, I'm an avid family photographer & videographer! THE BEST IMAGE RESIZER I was downgrading my review of an app that I used to use primarily for resizing images...because of recent problems. Luckily, Pixelmator has once again picked up the slack and assumed one more function that I used to use another app for...(remember, I'm talking about resizing images.) While doing that I suddenly realized that I’ve never even written a review of Pixelmator! Which is shocking because I use Pixelmator perhaps more than other app on my ios devices. I ended up making a YouTube video on how to resize images, because it's far better than anything else I've used. By better, I mean that Pixelmator impacts an image's resolution the least when resizing...and it provides the tools to fix resolution issues if the resize was so drastic that problems did ensue. Pixelmator does virtually everything you'd need to do with a photograph. It's probably quicker to list what I don’t use it for instead! It almost never fails, crashes or acts quirky. I throw a lot at it...all at once. Most apps do crush under my workload, but not Pixelmator. Here's what I use it for the most: COMBINING 2 PARTS OF AN IMAGE INTO 1 I'd been looking for an app that could do this for a very long time...all while using Pixelmator for other things! It turns out that Pixelmator is amazing to use for combining parts of different images into 1. It's so great in fact that I made a Youtube video demonstrating that process too...it’s called...'How to Merge 2 Photo's Into 1 Using Pixelmator for ios.' Why do I do this? Often its to remove distracting elements from screenshots that I want to use as illustrations. I'll take duplicate shots of it, and then crop out the distracting stuff (or use Pixelmator's 'Retouch brushes') then reassemble the image in Pixelmator. Also for screenshots to large to display on my screen...although I have another video where I discovered a trick for taking screenshots and getting more on the screen than normally allowed too. But sometimes there's just WAY to much and it takes several screenshots! CREATING GRAPHIC LAYOUTS I also use Pixelmator almost exclusively for creating all my graphic layouts. I used to use Pages for this, but Pixelmator is far better because it has all the image editing tools I need right there! IMPROVING IMAGE RESOLUTION & GENERAL PHOTO EDITING Using a combination of the Softening, Smudge, and Sharpening Tools allows you to manually improve the resolution of an image a lot. Depending upon how much time you want to spend on it you can work down to the pixel level. It can be fun and sometimes it saves a disastrous situation in which an image has been partially destroyed. These tools are all hand applied Brush tools except for the sharpening one. Sharpening offers 2 tools...one is a brush tool and the other, in the 'overall effects' menu...applies to the whole image. There's an overall Blur tool there too...but either it's not great for overall image softening or I don't know how to properly use it for that, so I use Adobe's free Photoshop Express app for that. The only way it works for me is if I just use 1%. Sadly, you can't batch edit images. If I need to edit a lot images with the same kinds of edits all at one time, I use One Edit Pro mainly for resizing, cropping or adding frames. ITS AVAILABLE TO USE IN 'CAMERA ROLL' This is another thing that I LOVE about Pixelmator. Because you can use many of the features from right within the Camera Roll...making it super fast! ONE THING I'M STILL LEARNING ARE THE SELECTION TOOLS When I can get these to work, they are amazing. Selecting in the past was a highly time intensive function for me. There are several YouTube videos I've been studying and leaning from and selecting is getting easier. This feature has a large learning curve but adds a lot of power to the app! In conclusion, Pixelmator is one amazing app that I'd be hard pressed to live without! I use it many times each day for a multitude of reasons. Great job app developers...and thanks for making an amazing app! ••••••••••••••••••••• FEATURE REQUEST I think a new improved version of Pixelmator might be in the works. If so, I'd really love to have a Mask tool. It’s current lack of a mask tool is the one thing that keeps it from being as powerful as Affinity imo!

  • Blah - waste of time & money
    by Jay-9999 on 2020-03-02 at 10:05 PM

Awful background and profile erase. And no real restore-function - only a limited undo button. Everything else it does available for free in other apps with less frustration.

  • Ok
by Emmahzification on 2020-02-28 at 5:16 PM

The functions are good but the layout isnt great and good god is this app slow. 5 seconds of freezing between any minute edits before you can keep going.

  • 👎🏾 Meh… 🥱

Dealbreaker: no cut, copy or paste. Layers? No access to clipboard. Pthpthpthpth…

  • Dangerous feature
by TimTimpani on 2020-02-11 at 12:24 PM

I understand this is a $5 app, but it really messed up my work. I opened a lineart jpeg and started to color and shade it. There was only one layer. To get the detail I would pinch to zoom and scroll around. Evidently, even with one layer, you can tap on it and it selects the layer. I must have tapped once on it by mistake and when I was scrolling, it actually moved off the canvas. After adding some detail, I zoomed out and noticed but it was too late. It had been cropped by the edge of the canvas and the undo did not go back far enough. Having limited features is one thing on a $5 app, but this kind of destruction just because I happened to tap on it makes this app unusable to me. And this was just in the first few hours of purchasing it. I wonder how many other destructive things can be done accidentally.

  • Needs palm/finger rejection with apple pencil
by EmkayNYC on 2020-01-25 at 12:30 AM

This app is great but it would be so much better if it distinguished between the pencil and your finger (right now both simply draw). There are a number of apps that do what I’m suggesting perfectly so it’s clearly possible. It would be really great if you could do it so pencil draws with whatever tool is selected, finger smudges and two fingers scrolls / pinch to zoom. Please please please do this. Five stars if this could be implemented!

  • Awesome Version of the App
by Soviettoly on 2020-01-22 at 8:57 PM

I love this version, its so easy to create little images on the go. Has been working great for me, even the iPhone version has a cool UI. My one complaint is that, some tool names differ, for example magic erase; you can do something similar but it takes multiple steps over and over. It took my very long time to find magic erase function, eventually I did but its weird that its not just called that.

    by @brandenlee on 2020-01-10 at 1:52 AM

App crashes anytime you attempt to merge layers... if you can get it to work at all. It no longer highlights layers as you try to hover another one over top of another one.

  • One to have
by MaybeTinEar on 2019-12-29 at 9:58 AM

I have procreate and affinity photo and designer (and I've used fresco (free)) and a sub to Lightroom, but there’s something to this app. I like the thread brush (under "ink"). The app needs 2 finger undo, but I can get by.

  • Easy to use and powerful results
by Wojehosky on 2019-12-19 at 1:28 PM

I’ve been using this for years. However with ios13 opening up room for fonts, I would love to have access to my custom fonts within this app.

  • Texture
by eliskplump on 2019-12-07 at 6:02 AM

I really like the app the only thing I would change is a feature to add texture to the texts or your own images please add that in.

  • App goes stupid from time to time
    by Dennis011 on 2019-12-06 at 5:11 AM

I love the app but when it goes stupid it becomes a real frustration. Was using the latest iPad version today and wanted to put text on a banner in my photo. It created a text window for me but then refused to pull up my keyboard to allow me to put text in that window. In doing some research in to my dilemma I found several previous complaints from years past regarding the same issue. The advice from Pixelmator was always the same... “you need to update to the latest version because we fixed that problem”. Obviously not! I kept finding this same complaint and response right up to a very recent date. My question is “why is such a seemingly simple task such an ongoing problem?”

  • “Unable to open image.”
by josephoregon on 2019-11-30 at 2:22 AM

The current Pixelmator version does not allow me to import photos 🤷🏽‍♂️. Please fix so I can use.

  • Good but
by sndurhdbxhehr on 2019-11-27 at 3:18 PM

The app is amazing and all but there needs to be a fill option while drawing, other than that the app is good

  • Awesome App. Some quirks.
by Thatxjguy on 2019-11-25 at 1:39 AM

This app feels very Apple-esque. But it could use some workflow improvements akin to what Adobe is doing in the new photoshop for iOS app. It feels like I have to do a lot of steps to access certain tools, and I would prefer just one tap. So a toolbar would be good.

  • Amazing power crippled by horrible UI
    by maxblack113 on 2019-11-23 at 2:17 PM

Long story short, I am a huge fan of the Pixelmator company, and this app is AMAZING in terms of capabilities, but it is hands down one of the most cumbersome UIs I have come across. It functionally does everything I need a simple graphic design app to do, but leaves me longing for a replacement simply because of how tiring it is to flip through drop down after drop down and menu after menu to perform simple tasks. This app desperately needs a redesign, and has for years now. I really hope something is in the works.

  • Not for me
by arkidelik on 2019-11-06 at 11:40 AM

I purchased this app thinking that it would be a companion to Pixelmator Pro, which I ha e on my Mac. However, it can’t open files created with Pixelmator Pro. Disappointed, since I now have no use for the app.

  • I second the comment below about the update
by stczztop on 2019-11-04 at 4:56 PM

This has been my go to app for all art-related endeavors for years, however iOS 13 has broken the functionality. Please update ASAP.

  • Does not remove lens distortion
by djbky on 2019-10-27 at 8:24 PM

I purchased the app because the description led me to believe I could use it to remove the usual edge distortion you get on iPhones (due to the wide-angle lens). Unfortunately, all that I was able to do was to distort an image even further, which is the opposite of what I wanted. Essentially, this app was a waste of $5 for me. The lesson learned is to never pay for an app you can’t try out first. Some paid apps lead you to believe they can do something and just then take your money without delivering.

  • Multi-app Annoyance
by Allewsive on 2019-10-24 at 9:50 PM

I used to love this app when it was trying to be a great one stop option. Now they have Pixelmator, Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator Photo... it’s like they stopped adding to Pixelmator or making it better and just made other apps.

  • Needs an update ASAP!
    by JJodom1010 on 2019-10-21 at 8:46 AM

This is a great app but ever since iOS 13 was released there’s been nothing but problem after problem. Update for iOS 13/iPad OS please!

  • Decent if simple app overall, but won't preserve transparency on export.
by iDavidW on 2019-10-18 at 3:21 PM

Plenty of ways to "export" edited photos from this app, some work, some don't, depends on the moon phase as far as I can tell, but none can manage to preserve transparency. So, if transparency is at all useful to you, don't bother with this app...

  • Love it but it hogs space...
by PlanningProcess on 2019-10-17 at 1:13 PM

This is a great photo editor with a full suite of great features. I highly recommend it except for one thing: It is a space hog. Unless there is an option I’ve yet to find, it automatically downloads your entire Pixelmator project library onto your device. This product would be a 5 star from me if I could choose which projects to pull from cloud storage instead of taking up phone space by downloading everything every time.

  • Best of the best
    by 019283j on 2019-10-14 at 5:19 PM

Really the best I’ve used on a phone or a tablet, very user friendly and has what I need. I’ve been looking for such app for a while, it’s almost perfect, wish the next update will be able to edit the imported pictures like to be able to crop, filter and draw, I’m using a separate app for this then import them. Thank you.

  • Unfortunately...latest update crashes

  • Bug
    by Hoomanh1998 on 2019-10-09 at 1:01 PM

  • There needs to be a redo option like the other Pixelmator app
by Dantasticali on 2019-10-07 at 9:39 PM

It’s so frustrating when tapping the undo button one too many times because of lag and losing all the work done to a photo. There needs to be a redo button like the other Pixelmator app!

  • Not any better than the free version of photoshop fix
    by SNance6 on 2019-10-06 at 12:51 AM

A complete waste of money for an app that does exactly what my free version of photoshop fix does.

  • Doesn’t work with Pixelmator Pro
by wish I was flying on 2019-09-20 at 11:47 AM

I’m very disappointed. I downloaded this app to view file made with the Pixelmator Pro desktop app. It doesn’t work. And I’m out $4.99 to discover this. I’d like my money back.

  • Your not thinking!
by legaceybeats on 2019-09-17 at 3:56 AM

  • Useless
    by Antipyrene2 on 2019-09-16 at 6:06 AM

The only reason I gave it two stars is that it looks pretty. What happened to all the tools. One GLARING absence is THER IS NO LASSO. What the frak? I wasted money on this and it is basically useless to me. Most of the tools won’t work, either. What has happened to these apps? They want to make everything so preset that a professional artist is allowed a basically dumbed down program for the selfies generation.

  • Doesn’t do basic layer functions
by Dice roll problem on 2019-09-16 at 3:32 AM

Doesn’t warp, skew, or alter a layer’s perspective. I bought this because I love the desktop app and thought this would do it too. I’m now $5 poorer and have to spend another $2 on a separate app that does this very simple, common thing.

  • Makes me want to throw my phone, yet I keep using it

Great app for on the fly editing while traveling.

  • Lovely little app
by tlabcacjt on 2019-07-31 at 6:12 AM

I’ve had this app for a very long time, never took the time to learn how to use it. I like easy quick fast and fun. Years later, cleaning up my phone opened this app, I had forgotten about. To my amazement, it has turned into the only app I use to edit and design with. I have learned through the method of “school of hard knocks” I dislike reading and generally can not focus long enough for information read to sink in. I suppose I’d rather waste several hours using the trial and error Method than a few seconds or minutes of reading. 🙄 I am still stumbling onto the amazing things you can do with Pixelmator. I have Pixelmator pro on my Mac and I love it! I don’t quite understand what the hype is about other main editing apps and programs are all about and the weird idea of having to pay monthly or yearly to use them? Pixelmator just can’t be beat. With that said, stop thinking about which app to get and we’ll I’ll decide for you, Pixelmator hands down is the way you need to go. 👍

  • Pixelmator (original)
    by BAR112 on 2019-07-30 at 4:03 PM

Excellent for brush-on effects such as soften, sharpen, saturate, etc. Not many apps do this. 5 stars!

  • A simple yet powerful app
    by ZonFire99 on 2019-07-21 at 5:26 PM

I’ve used a lot of design apps for development, this is probably my favorite most of all. You get all the features for one price, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions. Simply great. I would like a few a customization features; app icons, adding different fonts, being able to create empty folders, image size templates. Either way this is a great app if you’re looking to design things that require layers and edit photos.

  • Still my favorite...
    by Evan_13 on 2019-07-18 at 9:54 PM

Pixelmator has seen great updates over the years. However, I’d like to be able to have it sync again with Pixelmator Pro on the desktop (which probably means a new version on the App Store called Pixelmator Pro). Regardless, you’ll get your money’s worth with this app. It does a great job.

  • Wow
by Boom Pro on 2019-07-10 at 4:01 PM

Adds a terrible thing. None and done

  • Versatile, intuitive, and capable
by Gfszxv on 2019-07-10 at 2:25 AM

This app is awesome. So many brushes to choose from, canvas is set up in layers like typical photo editing software, and it’s really easy to use. It’s hard to fit lots of the capability of photoshop or gimp into an app designed for a touch screen, and they did a great job.
